I love Hugo Chavez.

Why?
His charm? His good looks? His stamina of talking for 16 hours on state TV?

thats what i would like to know.

you would think if a mod was going to take it upon themselves to police a personal forum they would have the courtesy to inform the person whos forum it is as to what and why they did..

i swear i participate in right wing, christian leaning boards with less bullshit by mods than this place.

freedom of speech my ass..

All the censoring makes for some pretty meaningless dialogue, don'tcha think?
I mean, it might be meaningless anyhow, but we'd never know. I'd rather HAVE the meaningless dialogue than have censoring.

I dunno. Half the time people accuse me of deleting something - and nothing was deleted at all.

Selective memory I suppose.

To be fair, Aristartle was not online at the time the thread was deleted. I posted and it was gone ten minutes later. What happened was that Fyrenza left a response to this thread under a different user name because according to her she was banned. When I posted the second response to this thread, I made mention of her being banned, in response to the post she had left, so I am assuming this is why the threads were deleted. Personally, I think Skip deleted them, but that's just my feeling and I have no proof to say who did for certain. But I don't think Aristartle did this time.

orison319
04-18-2009, 08:05 PM
I second that..

Aristartle
04-18-2009, 08:33 PM
Yeah, Fyrenza will be back after a little vacation. I guess Skip saw a bunch of people bitching about everyone that was banned and he went ahead and banned all the people in that thread, and then realized that the thread was at least 9 days old and so he set the books straight. She'll be back.

So the lesson: do NOT discuss publicly who is banned!

If you are too curious and want to discuss it anyway - PM me. PM a Mod. It's really not that difficult.

Look how easily this thread was derailed?

I'm not sure if you guys know this, but when Obama met Chavez, Chavez gave him Eduardo Galeano's book "Open Veins of Latin America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Veins_of_Latin_America): Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent" as a gift.

For anyone who has never read that book, it's about the defeat of Latin America implicit in the victory of others, specifically the USA.

Galeano has an excellent understanding as to why Latin America is accused of being overpopulated (when in fact, their population is proportional to their rural landscape) and he speaks openly about the Alliance for Progress under Nixon, Kennedy, and the relations of the Rockefeller and Ford powerhouses.

He offers plenty of evidence to substantiate his claims that the wealth in Western countries has always been at the expense of exploiting Latin American countries and the developing world to the South. Argentina's quebrachos belts, the Amazonia rubber forests, Brazil's sugar, etc.

His entire thesis is that dominating external markets, through the hindsight of historical remembrance and evidence, has been structured to maintain those "instruments of colonial extraction" as Korten calls them - the trading companies that established broad systems of exploitation.

Latin American countries today still rely mostly on their exports. Venezuala included.

I think it's really cool that Chavez gave him this book - as sort of a tongue in cheek invitation to be an intellectual and understand where the man's coming from.

*steers thread back on course*

It's not so much "the US" persay as much as it is the transnationals. The CIA, via the funding of drug cartels and guerilla armies, has also played a significant role in destabilizing the South American countries and creating a lot of suffering and death in the name of profit. Another book that gets into this is John Perkins' Confessions of an Economic Hitman, which was a New York Times Bestseller.

It's a clearly masonic handshake. It's called the ten. Notice how each of them have their thumb encircled by the other's thumb and index finger closed together, forming a circle around the thumb.

Well then wouldn't you say you're up kind of late?

Yes. And so are you.

I was on campus until 10:30pm tonight writing my last exam and picked up my term paper.

I dunno. It feels like I've been studying for a week straight. The days are all blurring together. I have to submit an application to the Dean by tomorrow to attend a class at Université Quebec in Chicoutimi this summer. So I've been figuring that all out.

I should quit and dream of a thousand clouds of peace...

I agree he's making an international fool of himself and the US.The BEST thing for the US to do is to take care of it's own "citizens",stop spending money and resources around the world.--By doing that it would benefit the US and other countries will once again have a little respect and maybe actually like America again.Let other countries around the world waste their money on these third world or backwards countries,oh wait other countries are alot smarter than contemporay America,so that won't happen.--I just heard the US is now gonna give money to Haiti too---absolutely absurd.
