Poetry from the Dark Side of the Night
My private collection
(Side note: My daughter refused any and all contact with me for 4 years, during which time this poem was written. She blamed me for everything that went wrong in her life. I refused to deflect the blame nor to defend myself against any actions, perceived or real, that she blamed me for. However, a little over a year ago, she moved away from some people who kept telling her how evil I was and has since discovered on her own that not much of what she formerly believed about me was true, and started communicating with me, first by IM, then emails and finally she now telephones me regularly. And all of that thrills me!)
My Daughter
By Gig
Conceived in love I watched your birth
As you cried your way into this earth
You were the star that shined on my life
You and your mother, my woman, my wife
I watched you grow from a bundle of joy
And now I've heard that you've met a boy
I wish I could be there and stand by your side
Boasting about you and beaming with pride
I know I fell short of just what you needed
I should have listened, I should have heeded
Now its too late, for you've changed your name
Not by a marriage, but out of shame
So I'll tell you I'm sorry, then say goodbye
and quietly leave with simply a sigh.
