Wow.

(i wasn't sure if this should be a new thread, or posted in your Failed Banks thread, HHB, so feel free to move it!)

i found this in a Google *cough* search *cough, cough* ~

a massive overload of dis/mis-information, imho~

for a list of failed banks in Australia:

FROM: Charities' fear over failed banks

'Disconcerting remarks'

The crisis sparked a war of words between London and Reykjavik on Thursday, with Gordon Brown criticising the Icelandic authorities for failing to guarantee UK depositors would get their money back.

Under Iceland's financial regulations, the government is supposed to pay up to £16,000 compensation per account at a total cost of £2.2bn.

A spokesman for Mr Brown said the UK now hoped to work "constructively and co-operatively" with the Icelandic authorities.

Icelandic Prime Minister Geir Haarde had accused the UK of being responsible for the collapse of the country's largest bank, Kaupthing, after anti-terrorism laws were used to freeze assets in the UK.

HUH?!?

What is anyone doing about their personal monies?

Or CAN we actually DO anything?

i'm getting more and more uncomfortable with having direct deposit...:(

my money is in the same bank that holds my mortgage, BBT. the CEO of which has been one of the only ones to speak out about whats been going on.. i aint real worried about what i have in there.

to be honest,at this point our hands are tied, whats going to happen is going to happen and we are just going to have to ride it out..

Mortgage? Fuck. Scuse my english.

while our money situation is, well, weird to say the least, I don't see any way we could lose our home... Paid for many many years ago in full. TAXES are the issue, tho they are comparatively low. But as the actual estate hasn't cleared yet (god knows when), we are not personally responsible for them yet, somebody with a few mil is.......

Whaaaal, if ya have any future probs with the mortgage or what-not, ya allus got a home here. Damn farmers.

People still put there money in though, right up to the last minute.

Wonder why folks would do that?

Force of habit?

Refusing to see the Big Pic?

i don't get it...

Oh, yeah ~

and are folks here doing the same thing by letting their money be direct deposited?

If the government insures your deposits, like they do in most countries, you don't have a lot of incentive to worry about it.
