Since we all seem to be conspiring to meet up around the Dc area on Memorial day weekend I thought I might just make a central post so we can all talk about it together.
Marie has suggested a hike to the falls in her area which looks to be the most central area to meet for us.
I know Luv is not too far away and neither is Nirgal if y'all don't have plans :) we should have a cook out too!! (Marie if you don't have a grill I can put mine in the back of Rich's truck and haul it up...heehee I can't wait!!)

05-18-2004, 04:03 PM
actually great falls is about an hour from my house, but i love it there. its nice. the best path would have to be the billygoat trail, very rugged. but i wouldnt be able to take the little one w/ me on that path. i could always just let you all do that one and i could walk else where. my little hiker has her own agenda whenever we go anyway! or i might be able to get someone to watch her for that little bit of time.
haha about the grill. yes i had one but it was johns gift for his birthday a couple years ago, so he tooked it.
wow. meeting at my house. this is exciting. or we could even go to harpers ferry and camp out there in the mountains!?!?!?!
HoneySuckleBlue
05-18-2004, 04:24 PM
I'm just gonna bring my tent and sleep in your back yard if that's okay with you Marie?:D
After a day of hiking I want to be able to chill and enjoy a nice cookout and not have to rush home...and I'll bring my grill, heh, heh we took that thing up to Shenandoah, lol it was so embarrassing but it was really nice not to have to stoke up a fire first thing in the morning to get breakfast going.
What days are we thinking about?
mariecstasy
05-18-2004, 04:28 PM
doesnt matter to me. i get off friday at 5 and dont come back in until tuesday at 8:30. so it makes no difference.
if nirgal or luv or anyone has any better ideas for hiking, i am game. i just bought the year pass for great falls, so its one less thing to pay for.
are we gonna have margaritas;) are you bringing the kids? or is it mommys weekend? like i said, i will have my little one but no worries she doesnt impose on the fun, instead she adds sparkle to the setting.

I do need break...I'd really like to not be responsible for anyone other than myself for a day or so...even though I spend most of that time wandering around not knowing what to do with myslef once I am alone, lol.
It'd be nice for Arrianna to have someone to play with though. Virginia travels well...I'll talk to Rich about it, he's been talking about getting more involved maybe he'll be curious :) ha...we'll see.
Either way I'll be there.
mariecstasy
05-18-2004, 06:54 PM
either way. sounds good to me. it would be nice for her to have a play partner, but she's used to being the only one alot of the times!!! she does get really excited to play with other kids though

*sticks out lip* i knew this question was gonna be asked. no, i am sorry. we have rules against it in my community. damn damn damn. i do have a little fire ring and we can do it in that. well not do it in there. but we can have a fire in it;)
oh nirgal this is exciting. are you gonna go to Great Falls w/ us too? or do you have another idea of a hiking place?
yippy this made my morning. woo hoo
HoneySuckleBlue
05-19-2004, 07:03 PM
I was wondering about that too Marie, my parents have one of these large patio copper patio bowls that I could also easily haul up in the back of the truck if you wanted. It makes for a good sized, respectable fire.:p (can't be gettin' wild or anything)
mariecstasy
05-19-2004, 07:08 PM
bring it on over. lol....you might as well just bring one of everything.
like i told you my yard is only 1/4 acre w/ neighbors. just so you know.
but noone bothers me and i have people over all the time. just wanted you to know what you are getting into.

nirgal, Cohongaroota? Is that the old name for the Potomac?
Inquiring minds want to know, not to mention me.
nirgal
05-20-2004, 01:08 AM
Yeah, it's the old Seneca Indian name (or at least one of them, I don't know if it applies to the entire river or not) It means "where the wild geese fly". The story I read was that Potomac was a traditional meeting place on the river. But the those English explorers that wore wool in the summer, couldn't make the distinction.
luvndrumn
05-20-2004, 01:29 AM
The Potomac is an incredible river from the little I've seen of it. I worked in D.C. for nine months a while back and sometimes drove in along the river from Rockville. For a time, it was in flood and the hydraulics were just vicious-looking. I'll bet it's beautiful near the falls (as long as one can't see too much evidence of us). It sure is beautiful as it flows into the Chesapeake. I helped a friend sail a boat down to Mobjack Bay from a creek north of the Wicomico River that fed into the Potomac. *sigh*
nirgal
05-20-2004, 01:49 AM
I read the sailboats for sail want ads....... a cruising boat doesn't cost THAT much..... if I sell everything I own...... One great chance..... clock ticks away...........
I think we have a crew here in the field :)

Oh, I'm definitely your deck ape!! Swap the 150 gennie for the spinaker? Yeah, babee! Haul that sucka down and run up the storm jib? Nooooo problem!!! Tuck in a coupla reefs? Let's go. Let the boat walk! Let the boat run!!! Gots no time to be green.;)

Marie and ROn would you guys want to meet over in Baltimore Saturday and do some volunteer work on this boat Greg found?
http://www.constellation.org/
...that goes from 8:30 am to 12 I think and then we could follow Marie back to her place and cook out, play games and stuff and then we could hike to the falls Sunday?
My sister wants to come too :)
mariecstasy
05-20-2004, 08:02 PM

hey guys
i have to admit i did not read the thread at all...busy busy busy me:)
that sounds real good to me. we should make sure they need volunteers memorial weekend.
i volunteered on this ship in baltimore. its a wwII liberty ship. triple expansion steam engine the same engine from titanic movie (engine room scenes were taken onboard sister ship jeramaha o'brian)
http://www.liberty-ship.com/images/pictures/cruises/brownbow-cleveland-cruise7-29-00.jpg
http://www.liberty-ship.com/images/pictures/cruises/engine.jpg
i know that engine makes nirgal cringe:)
i also know a park near not too far off we could hike and maybe camp:)
patapsco state park
nirgal
05-21-2004, 12:15 AM
It's a beautiful engine ! Tons of throbbing, pulsing steel, thrusting pistons and lubrication. The great ship parts the golden wave all resistance giving way to the sleek bow pushing relentlessly forward, rising to each heaving swell then resting, before plunging into the next...endless extacey, building to the climax of reaching port, then a pause, and again into her enfolding embrace.......
um yeah
That a Liberty ship isn't it?
I'm pretty sure they could put us to work, I haven't been up there before, but he posted a notice on another forum and It sounded like they could use everybody. I emailed him to see what the schedule is, I didn't specificly mention this weekend but he said the 29th was the next working day.
The volunteer riggers of USS CONSTELATION will be holding their Traditional Rigging Workshops again this season. This group maintains the ropes and rigging of the ship. Every other week, starting this Saturday, May 1, we'll meet from 8:30 to 12:00. Our project this year is to adjust and tension the lower mast shrouds and deadeyes, in preparation for CONSTELLATION's voyage to Annapolis this Fall.
USS CONSTELLATION, in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, is the Navy's last all-sail warship. She is a three-masted sloop-of-war, built in the 1850's.
No experience or skill are necessary in advance; we can teach you everything you need to know. Working aloft, with proper safety gear, is possible for those interested.
If you have any questions, please write to me at kevinz@charm.net.
He said they were working through the summer until she moves, by tug, I think. :)
HoneySuckleBlue
05-21-2004, 12:25 AM
I am crazy excited about volunteering on the boat Saturday, it will be over by 12...how long does it take to get from the inner harbor to your place Marie??
I was thinking we could just cook out SAturday afternoon then go to Great falls Sunday.
Buck is coming with, and she's just gonna tell Mike how it is...lol, he's going away this weekend to practise with his band for a wedding so she thinks it will be cool if she gets away next weekend.
Rich does'nt want to come so he's gonna watch our girls. I am sooo looking foreward to this!!
I was reading in my Canoe trails book and it said if your lucky you can see people shooting the falls in canoes and kayaks...that would be a treat!!
nirgal
05-21-2004, 12:28 AM
Yeah, I;ve been distracted all day thinking about it, this should be fun! :)
HoneySuckleBlue
05-21-2004, 12:30 AM
lol, I know!! I can't decide what's gonna be more fun :D hiking to the falls, camping out in Maries backyard, hanging out and talking or volunteering on that ship!!!
heeheee...now I'm really giddy!
nirgal
05-21-2004, 12:35 AM
:D :D :D
It's contageous :)
All or any of it...............

I am not going to be able to stand myself this next week...I'm ready to start packing now!!
7river
05-21-2004, 03:32 AM
maybe just maybe...
do you think if we all met up there friday and made prior arrangments...being we're out of town, they may let us stay on the ship friday night:)
now that would be cool!!!
then we volunteer saturday and cook out sat night...perfect!
or whatever else you all come up with:)
HoneySuckleBlue
05-21-2004, 03:38 AM
That would be too cool....does that happen??!
7river
05-21-2004, 04:10 AM
yes it does:)
maybe nirgal can explore the possibilities...
7river
05-21-2004, 04:13 AM
so what are our choices again?
i'm not sure where marie lives.
HoneySuckleBlue
05-21-2004, 04:32 AM
http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/mdmanual/36loc/images/02maps/seatc.jpg
She lives in Calvert county...straight across the bay from the big white one that says dorchester.
Marie does'nt think she'll be able to make the ship, so your options for Saturday would be...
a). Meet Me and G at the dock in Baltimore at 8:30 in the morning Saturday (unless we get to sleep on the boat..heehee I don't even want to think about that lol) or
b). Meet us at Maries around three or so Saturday afternoon or when ever you feel like getting there.
We could then do what we gotta do to cook out and enjoy a nice Saturday afternoon :) (I'm not planning everything:p )
Sunday after lots of coffee and a few smokes mebbe pack a lunch and we can then haul our tired asses up to see the falls (hopefully some nut will try to shoot the falls while we are there!!! *crosses fingers and squints up eyes*)
I'd like to head back to the shore before five on sunday, just because there are alot of deer on the shore and they freak me out at night...the kamakazi bastids.
What do you think?
7river
05-21-2004, 04:58 AM
i think i can feel you buzzing:)
me too:)
i still don't know how to work the visit to mama. it all sounds real good. send me an email if we get some set plans and i'll work out my domestic tails...
who's bringing the creamed corn?
HoneySuckleBlue
05-21-2004, 05:01 AM
I would'nt be suprised if you could feel me I can hardly contain myself, lol
If you left for mama's after the hike you'd have Sunday evening and Monday, or do you have to be back for work by a certain time?
I think we should get a kiddie pool and have creamed corn wrestling in Maries back yard!
nirgal
05-21-2004, 01:50 PM
Creamed corn wrestling :D will the corn be warm or cold?
I never thought about sleeping on the ship... I probably can't do it this time... but, I'll send off an email with a few questions like......
sleeping aboard
parking do they work in bad weather
anything else?
7river
05-21-2004, 02:05 PM
well that makes sense!
be back to work? he:) no
when you inquire nirgal, throw in we're coming in from out of town, that may make a difference.
if they allowed it that would be so great! we could hang out and have dinner in the city, then tell stories ship side.
*pretending he didn't hear nirgal say he couldn't do friday*
Wahooo!
mariecstasy
05-21-2004, 02:42 PM
now i feel left out
i am jealous i wanna sleep on the boat
and you all are gonna bond without me. hahahahahaha. j/k
that sounds like so much fun guys. i wish i could do that too
HoneySuckleBlue
05-21-2004, 03:24 PM
I want to sleep on that boat too!!
My sister and I would have a hard time getting away for an extra evening though, and Rich would suffer withdrawls going w/o his truck for that long, likewise my parents and thier fire bowl...
It'd be so cool if you could meet us at the boat Marie...would the folks watch her for the morning?? We could make them a free dinner :D :D
nirgal
05-21-2004, 04:40 PM
I want to be aboard when they move her from Baltimore to Annapolis...What a trip that would be :)
mariecstasy
05-21-2004, 04:41 PM

but you keep being you, ever time i see how excited you are, it feeds me
nirgal
05-21-2004, 11:07 PM
Oh I hate to do it, but we've got to replan....
I got this from The Constellation people.......Due to the Memorial Day weekend, the volunteer riggers of USS
CONSTELLATION will NOT be holding their Traditional Rigging Workshop this
coming Saturday, 29 May. We should be back on schedule for 12 June.
Thank you for all your work on CONSTELLATION.
-Kevin Zembower
--
kevinz@charm.net Kevin Zembower
But on the other hand in respose to some questions I got this...
-KevinThere is parking which CONSTELLATION validates for either $5.00 parking or
$5.00 off, can't remember which. Stan Berry, the operations manager knows
which parking lot it applys to. I've copied him on this note. He should
get back to you.
So far this year we have never had too many people; it has most often been
too few. We can comfortably work with 4-6, possibly more if there are
enough experienced riggers that we can split the group up. So far this
season we've just been averaging 2-3.
There are groups which sleep aboard, scout groups and such. Stan could
give you information on whether or not it would be possible.
If it's not raining hard, we work outside. In a hard rain, we'd probably
find something to do below decks, so we'd still meet to work.
Hope to work with you all soon.
-Kevin
So what cha think , haul the canoes to Maries???!!!
HoneySuckleBlue
05-22-2004, 12:35 AM
Yup sounds like a plan, atleast we'll get to sleep in a little! (...and we are rescheduling right?? I'm so getting on that boat...)
We have access to two kayaks as well. How many fit in your canoe? Mine's a two seater...
nirgal
05-22-2004, 12:42 AM
June 12 definitly :) can't miss that opportunity. Imagine climbing in the rigging.......:D
The canoe ( if I can get it painted and tied on the truck, should carry 2. It'll be the first time out......Who will be the brave soul :p
HoneySuckleBlue
05-22-2004, 12:45 AM
I'll bring and extra kayak then...and we can all go out, I have a life vest if you want it Marie:)
(...I seriously can't wait to climb on the rigging!!!)
The view is gonna be awesome!
nirgal
05-22-2004, 12:47 AM
ooooh... do you have an extra paddle? I'll have one done, I don't think I'll have time to make another, though........ :)
HoneySuckleBlue
05-22-2004, 12:54 AM
Haha hey yeah, I found two paddles the last time I went out. :) I'll sand the whole one and recoat it and bring it with :)
nirgal
05-22-2004, 12:57 AM
What else should we bring... like creamed corn or moominberries, conch, potatos,,,,
:) Are you still giddy :)?!!
I'm looking forward to just sitting around the fire in person with you guys....

HoneySuckleBlue
05-22-2004, 01:28 AM
I was wondering what we were going to cook...are we going to go to the store together or bring seperate stuff?
It is gonna be neat to hang out and talk instead of typing:) I'm really going to enjoy that too! I'm also looking foreward to the laughing that will occur durring the game cranium...that game makes me delerious...
I'm not giddy at the moment...I think I wore myself out and then my dad bought me three beers and I had some conch...and now I am comfortably numb.
nirgal
05-22-2004, 01:45 AM
I'm probably more communicative online ( I can edit myself ;))
At least with words....... it's all the stuff that goes on subconciously, body language tone of voice, what does the laughter sound like? It's a mystery right now..... :) all the vibes ! :)
I worked on the canoe all day to the drone of the cicadas ... I think it's an A sharp, they are as loud as traffic now...... sounds like alien spaceships
HoneySuckleBlue
05-22-2004, 02:08 AM
That's so cool! Have you seen them yet? I guess we don't get the cicadas where I live:(
It will be neat to see your canoe!
(I just saw the picture with all those ropes...that could get cornfusing, no?)
I was kinda worried before I met Marie because I'm also kinda quiet, but the energy was the same talking in person as when we corresponded on MSN. It's really nice to gather with people who 'get' you. According to the shrinks our personality type is one in a hundred, which makes having a meeting of the minds a very rare thing.
nirgal
05-22-2004, 02:20 AM
1 in a hundred :) I was thinking it was rarer than that. Then if you throw in the similer outlooks and interests it has to be a rare thing indeed..... fortune smiles
They are everywhere!!!!!!!! Thousands, They just started here in any numbers, yesterday. But they were this loud in Arlington on monday. You may just be behind us a little bit, although I don't think they are as fond of sandy soil.
I hope the canoe works, It's a tested design. Not an art piece, just a funtional, cheap a fast build. Flat bottom, hard chine, 16' long.... we'll see, probably be in primer paint ;)

Yes, yes hugs all around!
mariecstasy
05-22-2004, 04:40 PM
ask kim, i most definately am not shy.
and we can all just go to the store together, that way its one less thing to bring. i am only a couple minutes from a food lion and a gormet supermarket. you all can take your pick. i am pretty simple.
canoes are fun and good. geez, kim you are just bringing your whole house
HoneySuckleBlue
05-22-2004, 06:41 PM

well. I wrote down the address wrong ( put an8 in stead of a 3) so I almost pulled into the driveway, then drove down the way...then came back....She met me outside. SHe was even more stunning than the pictures she had sent me led me to believe....It wasnt much of a kodak moment. I stared into her eyes and said hello...then we embraced in a big bear hug. really, very boring story to tell....

hmmmmm, crazy chick (leaves me out - at least the chick part), on the old forums, really cool, with (we think) two kids... hmmmm
Our survey says... BEE RAIN!
Used ta live in (I think) South Carolina?
Yader, she moved. To Nebraska! To a communal-type organized, self-sufficient style of living. This is as best as I can recollect. Bee-rain, feel free to correct my sorry buttocks.
Oh BTW, I'm luvndrumn, lately arrived in the field. Here's your minimum, daily recommended dose of creamed corn. SHPLAT!! ~runs away~:D
