Questions about Hippies [Archive]

Hello there!

We're doing a project about hippies and wonder a lot of things about this exciting culture. I hope some of you could take some time and answer our questions seriously. So, here we go.

1. What happened to the hippies, are they gone? And why did they dissapear?
2. How did you live? We know some about their lifestyle but it would be interesting to hear from an other view, from a hippie himself for example.
3. How did they arise from the beggining?
4. How did the society look at the hippies?

So, that was it, we guess.

4. How did the society look at the hippies?Answer to #1... I've often wondered the same thing myself.

#2... I lived from day-to-day. I went to school, I worked, I partied, I protested (not peacefully), I was arrested, I was loved, I was hated... but mostly I had myself a hell-of'a good time (still havin' a good time). When I left home in the early sixties I made myself a promise to experience every kind of life style there was to experience. I think that I managed to keep that promise. I've done just about everything... I didn't say that I did things for a long time, just long enough to understand it and get really good at what I did and got out when those that couldn't began to hate me.

#3... Free Thinking (so-called hippiedom) has been around since Socrate's day. It wasn't so much a beginning as it was a continuation of the learning process and understanding yourself well enough to question everything.

#4... We shocked the pants off of society-at-large. Folks who were older than us didn't understand what we were about, and weren't very kind about the ways in which they voiced their misconceptions. We were; "Dirty, Pinko Commi Bedwetters", among other things they called us.
