I always wondered who do that song originally, Phish does an awesome cover of it. And for me, Phish always wins with whatever high or situation I'm in, but also like The Band - The Big Pink on opiates, very relaxing, same with The Beach Boys - Pet sounds, great cd. The grateful dead are also very soothing for me when high. Bob Dylan, bob marley, michael hedges ( greatest acoustic guitar player ever ), Leo Kottke, Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band, fugazi, the doors, etc..

^Isn't that an older track?
They remind me of Chemical Brothers. Which I can't stand. Older tracks of both are decent, but lately they haven't had any fresh ideas for tracks. They also picked a hard genre of Electronica music to conquer.

I recorded a crappy version of Cliffs Of Dover once for a college audition. That was pretty fun.

I love Rachmaninov.
any of the piano concerti, but 2 is always my favorite, followed closely by 3.
if anything, just listen to the first movement of the second concerto.

Quite hypnotic! I can see why that would work well with opies. That's the first or second song I've heard from them. Maybe I should give them more of a chance.
I love Rachmaninov.

Sorry, I've got to say that 3 wins IMO. I'm still getting adapted to the rest, although I've listened to them a few times. 3 just blows my mind every time... wonderful wonderful wonderful piece of music there.
Hey, I think I'm going to listen to no 2 tonight though... you've convinced me to give it another go :D
Do you have a preference to a certain performance? I've got Abbey Simon & the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. My favorite performance of no 3 though is Argerich! WOW she can play! It's ridiculous, she even blows Horowitz out of the water.
EDIT: just gave it a listen, and damn that was good. I was reading online while listening though... sorry Rach :( But yea I love how his concertos end haha.

I rather like the Rachmaninov plays Rachmaninov recordings.
I also love the London Symphony Orchestra & André Previn recordings, particularly for the 2nd concerto. there is a lot of great horn stuff going on in that recording of the 2nd concerto, which I dig since I'm a horn player myself :].
I'll definitely have to check out the one you mentioned though. I always think that the differences in interpretation are interesting to hear.
good stuff.
it's just beautiful music.
I never get tired of it.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre always fits the mood when you have a great buzz going on but if I am in more of an up and going mood then I will put on an LP I have of The Holy Modal Rounders, they were a great folk band from the 60s.

ANY Death Cab for Cutie song. Definitely the best Opie Nod Enhancer in the world. Here's an example of one- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy8m90clHgw&feature=related
Takes a second to get started, but totally worth it.
I'm serious, you should ALL listen to them on your next Nod.
Also, any Armin Van Buuren Trance music is good for Nods where you actually have to be semi productive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7qEivYkgZM Fucking amazing if you guys like Techno. All of his work is.
