Anybody ever have a nightmare after they doze off on an opiate ? I do, wakes me up yelling in my sleep and this never happens to me. Sometimes it will wake me up a few times and just keep developing when i fall back asleep. It only happens when I'm trying to go to bed for the night. I really don't mind it so much, just want to know if anyone else experiences this....

Yes of course, this is why Morphine is named after Morphues, the god of dreams.

for me i dont know if its nightmares as much it is just having trouble sleeping. when im not on oxy (which is probably 80% of the time), i always sleep like a baby. fall asleep early, dont wake up to my alarm goes off. if im on small amounts of oxy, i sleep even better than that. when im on alot, i cant sleep. why is this????? my body just goes into overdrive, and i go in and out of a half sleep all night, itching like crazy haha. it actually sucks and i feel like sh*t most of the next day. recently ive tried to do small amounts at night for this reason and it seems to be working.

Morphine dreams (nightmares) are the most common opiate to have nightmares on.

It's because Oxycodone (which is what OxyContin is), is synthesized from Thebaine, one of the 3 main alkaloids used to extract potent pharmaceutical opiates from; the other 2 are Morphine and Codeine.
Oxycodone is a semi synthetic opiate and the Thebaine it is synthesized from causes stimulatory effects, while the other's cause depressant effects. However Thebaine is not isolated and taken on it's own, it must be converted first since it is highly toxic and has no therepeutic value.
In my experience, Morphine dreams are very fuzzy and confusing, often frightening, while Oxycodone dreams are like amplified hypnagogic paralyzed states, sometimes with jolts when waking up or snapping out of it which resemble seizures, and rarely include intense psychedelic visions of neon geometric patterns, kaleidoscope imagery and colourful 'tunnel vision'. I've had a few dreams where trippy things would happen and Id fall into a few rounds of false awakening, but most of my psychedelic visions during hypnagogic dreaming induced by high doses of opiates have been overwhelming i.e. not like I visuals on acid, like visuals on DMT or artwork you see in paintings that are chaotic and nonsensical, far removed from any perception of physical reality. And besides that, they have always been very brief in my case, usually they accompany the seizures upon waking up and leave me confused mixing dream matter with waking events.

I wouldn't take morphine and go to sleep. My buddy did so and didn't wake up. So I wouldn't have any experience with morphine dreams.

However on high doses of oxy I'll wake up every hour or so and be itchier every time. I also feel mad weird. Half the time i'll forget where I am. Oxy fucks up my sleep

Taking any opiate and going right to sleep is a risk.

Yeah, I would think more so with morphine just because it's more of a sedative than say OC

Yea I think that "sudden awakening" or "twitching awake" that people experience is temporary sleep apnea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea) actually. This can be very dangerous, and it is why I usually do my opiates when I can stay awake for at least 6 hours afterward (especially since I'm still highly affected by them).

Common side effect of opiates, vivid dreams, sometimes causing nightmares. I get moderately strange dreams on opiates.

It can be, but a lot of the time it is just something called a hypnic jerk.

Morphine dreams (nightmares) are the most common opiate to have nightmares on.

The only time I dreamt on Morphine it was the best feeling in the world, felt like I was high in the actual dream. By far the best time I ever had on opiates, I was just so fucked up for two days, but beautifully. Comfortably fucking numb.

EDIT: Oh yea, and I didn't want to go to sleep, I just went into a super nod, I was tired as hell from tripping and drinking the previous nights, and just fucking beautiful. I try to stay awake on opiates to enjoy the high. Nodding out hard just happens sometimes.
