I found a thread at bluelight about using isopropyl alcohol to 'extract' opium of of poppy seeds. http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=328775
I have a ziploc sandwich bag mostly full of seeds from pods, probably about a pound. Ive been contemplating planting them, but I dont really have a place. Ive also been contemplating making some laudanum, but I dont want to use my good opium for it. So what I was thinking to do was to soak the seeds in ethanol, and have some kind of tincture. Basically what the thread says, but not evaporate the liquid.
What Im wondering is, can I use regular 80 proof alcohol like some clear rum (my favorite) or am I going to need higher, like 90-100%? I figured since its not even an extraction, more of a wash, it wouldnt make a big difference, but I dont know. If anyone has experience with this Id appreciate any tips or advice you may have.
