Are they sleeping pills? Because I just read a study, not on hand that says sleeping pills are bad for your health and can shorten your life, if that matters at all I dunno, just thought I would add that in before saying where can I get some cause I want to get my dream on.

I believe they sell them at health food stores that's where I got mine. They are great for sleeping I couldn't see them turning into a habit though.

Yes. Melatonin works great for sleep and it does seem to intensify dreams significantly. However, its important to note that melatonin does not knock you out by any means. It just makes it a little easier to go to sleep... well, at least with moderate doses. I have never tried dosing insanely high.
The pills I've seen are 3mg each, and in experience, this is much more than is needed to help induce some sleep. I can take just take a little bite out of that 3mg and still find it effective. Works great after a night of tripping for me... but only once the tripping is completely over with.
I've used melatonin a lot over the years, and I've never had any problems from it turning into a habit. I have always been able to sleep fine without it, even after using it many nights in a row.

I have noticed that my dreams are more intense and easy to recall from even like 1 or 2mg of melatonin. I've never gone higher than 3mg.

Dreams on melatonin are so "real" that it almost seems like you can control what happens in your dreams, which is some trippy shit. They never made me sleepy either, but they definitely helped me to go to sleep when I wanted to go to sleep and I could sleep less hours but feel more rested, because it's some deep sleep.

melatonin isn't a sleeping pill, its a naturally occuring neurotransmitter in your brain like serotonin, dopamine etc. It is responsible for sleep and keeping your "internal clock" on time and regulating sleep cycles.

omg I took 3mg of melatonin and 3mg of xanax, drank like 3-4 beers, and blacked out or passed out, not sure which one happened first. I just woke up on my cousin's couch the next day.

Not really..it just helps you get a deeper sleep and crazy dreams lol. It seems like i consciously make decisions in my dreams and i remember in the morning and sometimes its so real i didnt realize what i dreamed didnt actually happen until like midday.
omg, I can testify on the vivid dreams. holy shit I had some crazy dreams that night as well.

It can also cause skin spots (liver spots) and skin discoloration, because it is the same chemical that your body has to regulate skin tone.

it stunts/slows growth if you are under 25... haha your body's timer works on melatonin levels.
i take it when i go camping, and usually get some strange dreams... i only took like 2 pills (not sure how many mg per pill) though...
how much are you talking about when you say "lucid and trippy dreams if you take a shitload"

It's suppose to be relatively safe even in high doses, however, if you are doing that every night it might be a good idea to cut back. It's probably best not to messing with your bodys natural way of getting you to sleep.
For what its worth, even 1mg of melatonin is enough to help me to get to sleep if I don't use it very often.

I have read about some certain drug use in combination with melatonin, and of course.
As soon as I find the link, I will let you guys know.

I used 6mg in combo with Benadryl a few weeks ago and realized I started to have awful dreams. It's not so bad with just 3mg...but I really don't think it helped my sleeping any more than a placebo...my sleeping schedule is way fucked up anyway.

Melatonin is typically best to take on an as-needed basis in young people. Melatonin (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/product_info.php?products_id=1211) levels decrease as you age, so it's helpful for the elderly who have difficulty sleeping. However, if you're young and have normal melatonin levels, you could overdose if taking it on a regular basis. There could be something else causing sleep difficulties. However, there are some people who do just have low melatonin levels....I think they've found it correlates with some disorders, like ADD, depression, etc. SO it's very helpful for jet lag and temporary use, but you should look into carefully before using it on a regular basis.

Melatonin is for people who cannot stay asleep at night, it doesn't make you go to sleep.
One time after maybe a day or two after taking a pill or two of 2mg each I noticed hearing my thoughts as I lay down, I wasn't sleep as far as I know, I just sat listening to cartoonish sounds, not scary at all. One time I was almost sleep and I forget but whatever it was woke me up instantly, pounding heart and what not, but then I just went to sleep, no prob.
I get CEV flashes too, it looks like an exploding sun, but I am not shell shocked. I always wonder where it came from though.

Melatonin is completely natural. Our bodies produce it naturally.
The first time I took 10 mg or so for 3 nights and had the most vivid dreams of my life. I haven't been able to do that again, but maybe I just haven't been taking enough.

Aren't you thinking of Melanin?
Also someone erroneously stated that Melatonin is vitamin B6. It's not.
