good day everyone,
Im just looking for some feedback of some true hippies that have been there and done that and can give some real insight.
Is it so awful for me to give up on the USA? I really do believe my existance is based upon hippiedom, so I guess yes, Im a hippie.....if anyone in this age can be deemed a hippie. But I'm just wondering, am I a cop-out? Is it so bad of me to be an American with so much despise of the states nowdays? I feel like it is such a lost cause here as of late. I guess this is the pessimistic view not to have on life, but I can't help myself; I feel I can never be happy here. So much is backwards to me. I know there is no one other place that is some happy-peacefilled spot, for the world is becoming ill by the day. But I give up on the USA. It's so bad now, I feel pushed away from hippiedom and the shared views by just being here. There are no doubt some beautiful people here and great things have been accomplished.......I just think the growing numbers of materialistic little minds combined with the government are killing the states. This I don't wish to be part of. Is it so awful of me?

No. I think it's completely understandable.
The United States is a very materialistic culture... I think that it's unfortunate that the only way you matter to others in this country is if you are spending an "Almighty Dollar." Wars are driven by our government's compulsory need (or greed) to aquire more positive cash flow. We all can see how backwards that is, just look at our military spending budget... That hard-earned money I paid into our system for taxes might as well have been used as toilet paper, the way it gets flushed.
I don't think it's utterly horrible to want to give up on the system...
But I don't think that you should, just because of the mess we'd be in if everyone did the same.
We need to encourage more Hippies to vote and take an interest in our government, because it's never going to change if we don't take an active interest.

This is the world we live in,change what needs changing and accept what can't be changed. It's all good...

I totally agree with you. Our government is so corrupt that if this were to change this country as we know it, it would crumble into turmoil. In fact seperation of church and state, do you actually think this exists? If someone were to run for President and out front say they were atheist but had a wonderful political platform, do you actually think they would be elected. No that would be political suicide. I mean only in America do we have the freedom of speech yet many are censored for their beliefs. The land of the free where we no longer have a fair choice over our sexual preference or personal affairs. And people are way to hung up on looks. I mean I find more beauty in being natural than wearing an inch thick of make-up and starving myself. Now don't get me wrong I love America but right now I'm ashamed of whats happening to this country. And its only going to get worse after this election as both candidates look like bad omens.

Is it so awful of me?maybe you werent meant for america, i can't tell you if you are or arent though. sometimes we do need to make changes in that which surrounds us in order to be happy, or we can adapt, accept, and adjust, and flow... whatever works for you i guess, you got to keep at it until it feels right for you... i'm sure theres places much more beautiful and natural than america. why not do some travelling and check out all the different cultures and ways of life the world has to offer? of course that could mean travelling in the states also. its only realistic to observe whats going down, its not wrong, percieving evil where it exists is a form of optimism imo, but we cant keep embracing that, why would you want to anyways, its not very pleasurable i imagine. i'm sure theres plenty of hippies who are leading happy lives in the states , and i'm sure theres plenty outside the states, if one is happier or not i could'nt say, it's all your perception i guess...

classic case of the US Blues I guess............. I try! :)
by the way, I've traveled all around the states and that's actually what triggered my poor outlook on the things I saw.
who knows, maybe if GW gets his energy outta this place, things will be better.

It don't matter who's president,it don't matter who's running this country,it don't matter who god is.How did john lennon say it "I don't believe ...I just believe in me",or should I say imangine there's no country. What it comes down to is it's all just superficial bullshit, just believe in yourself and don't let it get to you.

America is not realy bad, as far as goverments go
People ar not realy that bad, as far as people go
We were born to strugle, the more you have the more you need, that is nature.
Going against that is going against natute, will take a lot of evolution for people to be satisfied.
not saying it is right or defiending anything, just letting you know, non Hippies have there reasons and are following there path.
Don't join, but don't get to far.
Living on the fringe has a lot of benifits.
Try your best to help out, in whatever way you see fit.

I don't know about all that wierd..I don't think that most americans are that greedy..as a middleclass hippie I don't live like that.. I like my comforts but I don't have to have the latest or keep up with the jones's..you can't persuade me to belive that anyone enjoys sleeping in the street or alley better than a clean bed or likes to eat unclean food..we all want better.. that's our nature..we come from a slave ancestery and have been trying to rise above it..our job is to progress not regress.. I don't want to live like the they did in the caveman days.. I want to be civilized.. and live in peace and prosper.. I want my kids to have better for them then I had.. and I want peace for my grandkids to live in.. if that makes me a sellout I don't care.. I'm not here to be a puppet.. I have lived life the hard way and learned many lessons.. I'm not trying to be anything but my self and stay true to what my heart tells me to do.. we all have responsibility to ourselves..

It's not america you are hating, but an aspect of the human condition.
If a bunch of hippys were to head down to south america and start a nation how long do you think it would be before those who are in power are curoppted by that power? People say, "the us is this way or that way", but if you say white people are like this or that your considered narrow minded
The fact the someone wants to be president should automaticaly disqualify them.. isaac asimov

I have to go to a funeral.. I'll be back later

I hope you mean that because we do understand and support.I for one wasn't trying to put you in your place. The American system can be disheartening. No one blames you there. It was another posters comment about canada that irritated me.People treat you like you treat them,so if he doesn't like the people here he won't do better elsewhere.

It sadens me to hear you have no people. where did you come from..besides the Annuanki..If you have no ties here then it's different.. travel is good for the soul.. but to abandon ones family is a huge step.. If Canada is so wonderful why do they move here to this awfull country..and then complain about how screwed up it is here..there's not 25 billion people in Canada of every race color and creed.. wanting the USA to comform to their cultures and learn 30 languages..feed house and clothe them.. I love this country with it's blue oceans and snow covered mountains.. and the desert with it's stark grandure..I have nothing against Canada or Canadains..I have friends from there..I don't think that Canada could support all the aliens that the USA does or give socialized medicine to a billion people and still have a solid ecomoney.. just mhop

well, when I say I have no people I intended the point to be shared that I consider myself not of any 1 culture & not of any 1 color or 1 group...but as just 1 soul of this planet, as I see everyone. But, you weren't wrong either in your take of the statement....I don't have any people....I have a few family members scattered throughout the country, but 0 peers or anything of that matter.
I do travel....well have traveled....nearly all summer I spent on the road going to festies and Dead shows around the country.....sometimes just going to areas such as NorCal and Oregon for no other reasons but to experience the people and beautiful landscape. no doubt, a great and needed experience of life.
I never mentioned anything of Canada myself.

everyone wants to be and have what americans are and have.. but they don't like the government..they love cowboys movies and think that's how we live here.. or ganstras..when they see how modern our socity is and how much we have.. they get mad/jelouse and hate us for it.. but look here their beating down our amercain door trying to get in..they walk, crawl and swim to get here, they risk their lives and the lives of their childern to be here..They come here for the freedoms that we take for granted everyday, the freedom to worship and live on your own terms, to work and be able to feed their families and get medical treatment, yes and even to buy that big screen TV at wal-marts..I love my country and would fight to protect her from invasion..its my home.. I'm not leaving..who would water my flowers?

As a Canuck I can say sincerely that every time I have been to the U.S. I have been treated very well. The American people are very very good people. The ideals set out in the founding of the country are the best in the world, though not followed completely still to this day, and not even close when they were written 200 years ago.
USA is the home to all cultures, as is Canada, diverse, and that is why it holds more hope for a peaceful future, since it is where we are learning to accept each other.
Many countries have virtually homogeneous populations.( one ethnicity ). Here we have it all.

Remember history repeates itself. I seem to remember reading about the spanish who invaded the new world for god gold and glory. Does this not sound like the USA.
God- using a religious background for power.
Gold - Oil plain and simple
Glory - worlds greatest superpower
If this continues i belive that
-eventually our president (doesnt have to be BUSH) will start a church as did king henry.
-Imperialism will cause the downfall of the UN and many small nations ex:IRAQ
-The usa will fall to another superpower
