There are billions of people in the grave. What are they doing? They appear to be "sleeping". Conscious of nothing at all.

that is something i've been studying all semester in one of my religion classes: death and dying. I just got back from visiting my cities oldest cemetery.
What are they doing? That is the question many people contemplate all their life...heaven, hell, rebirth, becoming a part of nature, becoming an animal...who knows

I read somewhere that soon there will be more people alive on earth than have lived during the entire course of human history.
As for the dead - they checked out.

The bodies are discarded like abandoned vehicles along life's highway but there aren't any hitchhikers.

to me life, consciouss experience, spacetime, matter, energy, all of existence is really nothing more than motion. for no length of time do we sit in the same space, the same minute second millisecond, energy is always transfering, atoms are always trading places with other atoms. we are events in motion. our body never was us we simply associated with it bc in this form its our easiest thing to identify with. we are so much more however, we are part of a greater whole of existence that we are simply not entirely aware of except on a subconsciouss level. dead bodies are still in motion in so many ways, just not on the level of their fomer existence and hence they are still consciouss just not as a breathing human being just bc we dont experience complex thought and abstract ideas nemore doesnt mean we are not consciouss and it doesnt mean complex intelligent experience will not be formed again after laying dormant for ne length of time. nonexistence is far more simple and yet complex than anything we can understand and to achieve this all motion on even the most subtle levels must be stopped which im not sure is even possible. all of this is just kindof where my thoughts are at the moment and by no means do i belive any of it. all just pure speculation. i could ramble on for a long time going into much more detail but i think this satisfies me for the moment so have fun with your complex yet primitive brain while you can cuz really none of us has a clue what happens next...
