Well, as part of the Peace One Day campaign, I've written a new poem. I'm dedicating it to the campaign and will be reading it out this Saturday at Norwich Fringe Festival to raise awareness.

"Peace One Day"

From the West Bank to East Berlin,
Hiroshima to Ho-Chi-Minh,
From the Boer War to East Timor,
Kosovo to Alamo -
Hear the children cry in pain,
Turn the page, another stain –
History book’s been written red,
Another people, broken, bled,
Another chance for peace –
Dead.

From Ypre’s fields to Stalingrad,
Falklands to the old Yugoslav,
From Afghanistan to Sudan,
North Korea to Chechnya –
Watch the poppies, trodden to mud,
See the Tigris, run with blood –
Another war begins to rage,
Don’t be quick to turn the page –
Change must come, come what may,
Together we’ll look for another way,
Together we’ll make peace,
Peace One Day!

Thank you for sharing that.

"Where do the children play...?" Cat Stephens

Obviously they don't play in America any more. Poor Mr Stevens, I don't believe that he gave money to Hamas, and even if he did, it'd be no greater crime than the millions the US government gives to the Israeli military every day....

I liked it. The first half is stronger than the second but you already know that. I really like too the fact you'll be reading it and the poem's structure obviously reflects its oral and its aural complexities. I've studied a lot of poetry and I have to agree with the romantics who believed that the oral precedes the written. Good job!

The Romantics are some of my favourite poets, Blake in particular....
