high. i smoke marijuana because i like to get high, but i have noticed it sometimes helping with my joint pain.

i've had joint pain since i was about 15. mostly in my left knee. but most of them once in a while. each year its worse and worse, and now joint pain (knees, hips, occasionally ankles, occasionally elbows or shoulders..but most frequently knees and hips)

it comes and goes, sometimes its brief, sometimes it lasts a few hours or a day or so. sometimes its fairly mild and tolerable, but sometimes its really pretty bad. a little earlier i went for a walk outside since its a nice night. my left hip started to stiffen up and hurt enough i found myself involuntarily limping a bit. i had to find a bench and sit down for a bit. i hate this, and i feel like i'm missing out in life if i cant feel at least comfortable or tolerable. i couldnt use it all day for pain, but honestly tylenol and such really only help so much, but when i get that one elusive bag that really helps my joints feel better, its so wonderful to be able to go home and relax as well as getting rid of the pain.

i assume its arthritis and just affecting me earlier than is usual in most people, but i have not gone to a doctor yet about it. i should do so as soon as i figure out my insurance situation.

now i have a decent understanding of the basics regarding cannabis, but when it comes to the effects of specific strains, i need some guidance. now matter how good the stuff i get is, i very rarely get a name, and very rarely care to as i distrust them sometimes.

so i'm left with ignorance on the subject. i have invested in about half the necessary equipment for growing as well as some good seeds, and intend to grow whenever i come by the right place in which to do so. i want to grow largely for recreational purposes, but also for pain relief if possible. further i've been troubled by insomnia for years much worse than the joint pain, and find many strains (i presume largely indicas, of course) help me get to sleep much more easily.

if anybody here is very well experienced with growing marijuana, particularly medical marijuana, could you please give some suggestions for a novice who would like to end up with heavily narcotic, pain-relieving bud? in terms of quality of effect, the mind-fuck is of little importance compared to ability to relieve pain, and conduciveness to sleeping well.

i do also intend to experiment further with consuming cannabis as a tincture for improved painkilling ability, as i've found orally consumed pot to be far more narcotic in nature in the past.

any help, suggestions or advice is greatly, greatly appreciated! :D

btw i'm also curious about MMJ states...i know california is pretty open and has one of the most progressive programs out there....but how about someplace with a little more reasonable cost of living? what would be the next best place where i could perhaps have a chance to grow it legally if i could prove a medical necessity?

i forgot to mention i understand the concepts of genotype and phenotype, and understand one strain will likely offer a couple varieties of pot, but i'm talking about in terms of generalizations -or- the desired phenotype.
