asynchronicity

I just moved to the NYC area, and I have one friend here who is a smoker like me, but I hate always having to bug him to make connections for me. He's also one of those paranoid guys that makes you feel like it's a big favor for him to help ya out.
I'm not gonna ask how to connect, cause....well....duh! How would you answer that on a board?
I just wanted to start a discussion about it. I seem to be having the hardest time connecting with like minded people in NYC. Which seems strange to me. I didn't have a problem when I moved to the 'Cuse (the 315), but maybe that's cause it's a college town. But....on any given day I had at least 3 different people I could get in touch with to get some green. In Texas is took me all of about three days, but I guess that was cause I worked with a dealer. In Boston, I had no problem finding friends to hook up with.
I guess I've always been lucky to run into good people in the places I've lived. Here in NYC (which I feel should be the land of plenty) I've gone almost three weeks now without a toke (except for some herbal fake shit).
How have ya'll made connections in the past when moving to a new area?
