The Lidl debate. (QUality or quantity)

When we shop, say Tesco, it is tempting to buy the value stuff. Much of it is poor quality. It is bland and usually without nutrience. As it is made and processed on the cheap. Usually cheap minced beef is made from the off cuts or the crap parts of the cow. The chickens are even worse. There are urine burns and it is dodgy too. I had off chicken and it was within date.

In an economy where the price of milk is like DAMN! and a bag of rice is now starting to be rationed asthough we had somehow returned to the 1940's.Perhaps rationing should be back for certain items. But Bio fuels is much to blame. We are basically putting fuel before food. Massive fields that would otherwise feed the masses is now assigned to destruction.

Lidls has now become the supermarket to shop in. Tesco may boast value products, but quality should be first. Or does it matter?
Is it quality or quantity?
Do you shop at Lidls and do you save?

I shop in Lidl - when I can - to save money but not everything that Lidl is cheaper.
As for own branding I do buy make sense chopped toms, baked beans, kidney beans, pasta - I think with all these it really doesn't matter about quality as you usually just addthings to them. So really, yeah to save money... however some own brand stuff I would not buy - like meat I'd go to the butchers.

We shop at lidls all the time, it sells really good coke and 25p cans of pepsi. It also sells cheaper stuff and has good offers, usually we use it for top up shopping.

Oh and my dad is unnervingly fond of grafenwalder pils, which is apparently good value for money.

We dont shop at Lidl, and we dont buy tesco value crap.

We used to shop at Lidl all the time, back in our old home, when Lidl was a five minute walk away, but then after moving here, it wasn't accessable and after a while, it closed down. Now when we go back to visit the grandparents etc we stop by there if need be. Otherwise. Fuck it. Theres no Lidl here anyway.

I've only ever been in Lidl in Germany because there was one 2 mins from my friend's flat and even then I only ended up buying booze which wasn't actually very nice, though their lager was ok and good value for money. My friends bought food in there but it was horrible.

Without sounding too pious I try and avoid supermarkets as much as possible because, well, you know, they're supermarkets.. Not very ethical to shop in them IMO. Cheap stuff comes at a cost somewhere down the line. Support your local traders.

I'm of the opinion that, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. If you pay pennies then most of the time you're going to get shit. I'd much rather have a small meal of something quality and fresh than a cupboard stocked full of tinned food and processed industrial diet. You don't actually need to eat very much to be healthy and I can guarantee you'll feel better eating less but quality as opposed to abundances of cheap crap.. And spend the same amount of money.

sometimes ill go in liddl but cuz i dont drive now, the nearest supermarket to walk to is a sainsburys.

i dont really buy the "value" stuff but i do buy lots of the stuff thats knocked down at the end of the day (with the little yellow stickers) and freeze it.

for veggies i buy fresh from the greengrocers and i top up on bread etc from the corner shop...

Lidl is very cheap and for those who work there, the pay is EXCELLENT (probably due to much less spent in areas where other shops provide such as isle layout, amount of fridges/freezers, store decoration and attractiveness, etc).
I've shopped at Lidl when I shared a flat with a mate for convenience and quantity for cash, although with nutritional value at the bare minimal and rubbery textures in food, Lidl failed to do my ravenous stoned hunger justice.
I'd definitely prefer to shop for quality instead of quantity.
But on the whole I'd rather purchase seperate ingredients and cook for myself.
Fuck processed foods.

Im not sure you quite understand whats really happening here J0hn:rolleyes: The thought of someone cruising around eating a bucket of value chicken in their car grumbling about the biofuels does amuse me though
