Yet again some starting questions regarding some basics

I've read around quite a bit and have my resources for not screwing up with something stupid, or atleast close to that...but i need some stuff covered

I have limited growing space at the moment and I was wondering if it's enough which I doubt a bit. It's like a socket in the wall meant for something along the lines of a washing machine. It's about 75cm (~30 inches) high and about the same in the other directions so its like a 30x30x30in box inside my wall, with one side open, covered by the side of my table. Would that be enough to grow a plant all the way to the end? I've seen some small plants, but I'm kinda skeptic about .that. small...Plus do I have to keep the lamp in mind? Does it have to be _above_ the plant at all times? Even when its finally getting near the ceiling of the "box"? Or is placing to shine from the side(s) enough?

The other area of interest is...lighting. I've read tutorials with some general info about that, but they didnt make me go like "oh, now i know enough to get started". Probably cause I live on the other side of the world from most of you guys. So I'm looking to find a lamp that is enough to take care of 1 plant...since i'm starting with one and wouldnt have enough space for more anyway i suppose. I'm not sure I'd like brand information or something, more like about the techincal babble...to find something from our local providers basing on the requirements. I have absolutely no idea how the lamps even look like...are they like on a "foot" or just standalone stuff for me to figure out how to set up etc. So basically like ... [insert number needed][insert unit(?..english..) ..i mean like W n stuff] and terms like VHO and crap.

Are the "vacation" timers universal? Like will they work with whatever kind of lamp i buy?

So yeah, I thought i'd save this until i get my own place to grow in peace, but the idea with the "socket in the wall" popped into my head and now it seems to be a good one. Maybe i'm making it too complicated (doubt it tho), but gotta start somewhere right

oh, PS, what about the ..aroma? would that plant make my whole apartment smell like weed at some point even if i'm separated from the rest of the apartment my a set of stairs and a door (standalone room upstairs, built into the addic) or just..do i have to worry about that?

Don't know what kind of budget that you have to work with but that little hole would be perfect for a palnt of 2 depending on the strand. Try to stick to an Indica or Indica dominant strand to assure that it stays smaller. You can also do some reading up on LST and topping to help keep the plant under check in that little space. If you are only going to do a plant or 2 I suggest using just a plain spiral CFL. Try to find on that is 27w or bigger. A couple of them will do the trick for one plant. These types of bulbs can be found in a variety of light spectrums that will be good for both veg. and flower. You want one with a bigger K number like 6500k for veg. and one with a lower number like 2500k for flower. Your yiels won't be as good as with an expensive HID but this is your first time no? So, keep it simple. You will need a little fan to circulate some air and you need to be able to block that area off during flowering so that the plants get 12 hours of complete darkness every night during flowering. As for smell...that also depends on the strand but the smell of one plant can usually be controlled with a air purifier or a negative Ion generator. There is a product called Ozium that will work well for one plant also. Hope any of this is a help and I'd be glad to answer any specific questions that you might have. Good Luck and good growing!!

Thanks for the reply man. As for the budget...that's the only thing stopping me at the moment apart from finding good seeds, which is hard here. But i figured i'll start doing research and get prepared early, so as soon as i get my hands on some money, i'll visit some...lamp shops. But until i got the stuff all i can do is read around. So basically this thread will be inactive for some time most likely, but if anyone has something to add/some suggestions, you're more than welcome. peace
