I was talking to a guy, 18 years old I think, in college. He told me that one of his friends went on a psychedelic excursion and that "the drug caused his brain to keep producing serotonin at dangerously high levels even days afterwards, which made him think he knew everything, so they had to take him to the hospital and give him an injection to correct it"

That statement right there is probably single scariest thing I have heard ever come out of a young persons mouth in years. Albeit, only 4 years younger than me, but the fact that thinking right there represents some sort of "rationality" of the university world is quite scary.

That kids statement translated into saner words is, the guy realized something incredibly profound and was rolling in an incredible after-glow for days, but no one thought it was ok for someone to feel that good, that enlightened on the subject, people became afraid, so they forced him into the hospital.

It scares me that the rational straight world disregards personal realization, personal empowerment, personal spiritual idiosyncrasies so much that they are actually teaching kids that it's just some 'chemical problem to be corrected' and would actually say there is absolutely no pertinence attached to the subjective feelings associated with the chemical. They have quite literally outlawed spiritual growth for some kids, made them terrified of it.

It really depends what exactly the kid thinks he knows. If he suddenly "knows" that people are demons and he needs to cut off their heads to cleanse them, I'm gonna side with people who shun "personal spiritual idiosyncrasies". Also because of my personal views on it.

Apparently he was running around a bit "out there"... but not to the point of fully tripping balls or committing crimes or whatever. Just saying things that were incomprehensible to his fellow students... which I imagine would probably be quite comprehensible to a more experienced tripper. But none the less, it COULD have been alot worse then I interpreted it as... I assume it's not as bad because I still have yet to run into a 'fucked on psychedelics' person that I still couldn't understand to some degree and talk to. I mean, I really don't know the whole situation, I wasn't there. But just the way he explained it to me and how the doctors concluded his brain kept releasing serotonin which made him feel like he "kept having revelations and knew everything" was a chemical problem which had to be "corrected", when all they probably did was tranquilize him. I can't believe thats considered a respectable medical opinion.
