I used to make incense holders before I got sick. My health is improving so I am looking to see if there is still a market for incense holders.
any comments would be greatly appreciated: and also how much would you pay for one of these?
The white one is the first one I ever made and the other is one of the last ones I ever made.

P.S. and they will be all one of a kind

heh I'm literally so used to incense in my basement that I get headaches when I dont burn them enough... to answer your question though Paxman,

I think your burners would definitely sell.. and being one of a kind? would only make them more valuable..

I usually spend around 5 to7 on a flat burner.. or 10 to 12 on a full burner (the ones with a compartment in the bottom)

let me know if you ship to rhode island :)

Those are both great, I definitely think you should continue making them...especially if it's something you enjoy doing. I think there will always be a market, depending on where you attempt to sell. Try music festivals, NORML Rallies, etc.....Just be sure not to underprice your items. If you make them with your hands....consider your time spent, supplies, etc. Handmade items are oftem more expensive, but are well worth it, people generally understand that concept of a one of a kind item is priceless. :)
Good luck!
Oh, I didn't even answer your question....yep, I burn insense often, I usually try stock up on handmade insense when I go to festivals in the summer....enough to last through the winter until the next summer, but spring is usually spent burning candles because I never plan well enough. :)

thank you very much for all your comments- muchly appreciated.

Unfortunately I will not be selling them over the internet because for one thing I am basically computer illeterate and I don't even know how to post a pic on this site properly, and I really appreciate the one on one contact that you have when you sell them at craft shows/festivals/ etc.

I know this may sound a litle egotistical but I am hoping one day when I'm in my hundreds I will see them on the Antique Roadshow and the people looking at them will all have big smiles on their faces. I know that when I finish creating one, it puts a big smile on my face.

I better end this post- I'm getting full of myself.
Thanks again for your positive comments.

(NaturalNews) The burning of incense releases high levels of some chemicals associated with lung cancer, findings over the past five years indicate.
Incense, used primarily for religious, medicinal and meditative purposes, was found to create air quality environments hazardous to human health, according to reports by New Scientist magazine.

A set of chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are of primary concern. While organic and often aromatic, PAH include carcinogenic chemicals such as the components of benzene and the chemical used in mothballs.

A 2001 study by the National Cheng Kung University of Taiwan surveyed the air quality (http://www.naturalnews.com/air_quality.html) inside a poorly-ventilated temple and found benzopyrene levels that are 40 times greater than what is found inside of the homes of people who smoke cigarettes. The air quality in the temple was almost as bad as standing next to a busy intersection filled with car exhaust.
A similar study done in The Netherlands found that the air quality of two Maastricht churches had 20 times the amount of chemicals compared to an intersection.

The lead researcher for the Taiwanese study, Ta Chang Lin, expressed concern to New Scientist about the quality of the air in places of religious ceremonies.

"The concentrations of PAHs inside the temple depends on how many visitors come to worship that day. During some major ceremonies, hundreds or even more than a thousand sticks are burnt at the same time," Lin told the magazine.

The air quality in the temple was below standards set in Taiwan (http://www.naturalnews.com/Taiwan.html).
PAH chemicals are released from the burning of certain organic items, ranging from incense sticks to steaks on a barbecue grill.

According to Dr. Ben Kim, a natural health advocate, the studies serve "as a good reminder to allow fresh air to circulate throughout one's living space," he writes on his web site.
Kim recommends keeping windows open in the summer "whenever possible" and to try to keep windows open in the winter if weather and temperature permits.
Assuming the neighborhood you live does not have polluted air, it is "beneficial to one's health to simply open a few windows for a minute or two each day to allow some fresh air to enter the residence," he writes.

I've lived in some small towns over the years where nothing was really available of any quality.

I took up the selling of incense to support my own habit. :)

I'd place a wholesale order, and then resell it like other people sale Avon. I'd have 20 different kinds on hand at any given time with access to over 200 fragrances from around the world. Always sold Indian incence as a preference. I've found the America products to be mostly inferior charcoal sticks dipped in inferior grade oils. Most people can't tell the difference. There are good qualites of incence from Asia as well, some of it very expensive.

Bad incense can give you a headache, mainly because the punk sticks are made from bamboo that is too green.

Nag Champa is still the world favorite. It actually has over 40 ingrediants in it. A family secret of sorts. Lots of imitations out there too. You can get it in several forms. Powder, oil, soap.

I keep a slightly opened package of Nag Champa in my vehicle to keep things smelling nice inside. You can do the same for clothing you have folded away in a drawer.

You don't have to burn Nag Champa to enjoy it.

I've been burning incense (and sage but I don't really consider that incense) for years. Even though I get really bad migraines, I've always found incense to be relaxing. I great way to just mellow out and watch the smoke rise. I don't burn it as much as I'd like since the little one arrived, but once he's bigger I'm sure I'll get back on track. Very NICE PAX, The use of Incense is to create a frequency in which to carry a vibration to the universe and create a 'mood' or a change in frequency. Aromatherapy. It is used as a mood elevator.

I use Queen Of Heaven and Copal. I use the resin form of incense but do use the stick kind on occasion.

Sage I use for a smudge to Purify and Cleanse negativity out of the vibrational flow of energy around us. Leaving a window slightly open for the negativity to escape through.

PAX, do you make the flat kind that hold resin incense or powdered. I find these type of incense cause less poulution in your enviroment, it burns cleaner and has no other aroma to counter it's results. A purer frequency, without the interference of wood residue.

Essentials should be infused and not burnt OH. Heat changes the frequency, the Aroma and the ability to carry Oxygen and vital nutrients to where it is needed.

If you are out for just the smell do what thy will, but if your in it for the healing affects infuse them or put a few drops on a cotton ball and put it in your shirt pocket or bra if you wear one.

Sorry if this seems off topic, but incense are Aromatherapy and I do teach the many uses of Aroma in my healing work, so I thought I'd just throw it in there.

Bright Blessings and great work PAX.

I'm really not sure what type you are referring to. If you could post a pic or a link I'll be able to answer your question. Do you think that the tray type that I'm making would be beneficial in aromatherapy?

PAX

After further investigation, I can't see why one couldn't burn resin or powdered on your burners PAX. Do you think they would 'stand up' the direct heat for long periods of time.

Plz don't think I'm disin' your work, on the contrary, I dig it. ( also giving you a window to brag on the quality and durability of your product) But ya know we are kinda talking about it, so I thought I'd ask.

I'm using a metal soap dish right now to burn my copal but I don't like all the heavy metal (Brass) associated or incoropated in the effect I am trying to create. I fear it is interfering with the frequency of the Essentials and I am not reciving the full benefit of the session.

If it if compatible with the resin/powder then I would recomend it to my clients and also be interested in perchasing one myself.

Bright Blessings

Pax- your captive audience burns primarily stick inscense and not ko sticks or resin or woods.Shamless refers to a bowl.Inside the bowl some put a coal and then the item to be burned.Very smoky and powerful, probably used more for cleansing than enjoyment. The Japanese style consist of a bowl and the nicer ones are stone not brass(yuck).Inside the bowl you put a layer of white ash.You then put a square piece of charcoal under the ash.Poke a little hole in the ash for the heat to vent and then you place of piece of mica on top. Then you place your item to burn on that.Hardly any smoke.Much, much better for you than stick stuff. You get the real deal because the heat releases the oils,it doesn't burn them.I imported literally tons of champa -it makes great carpet freshner.I can't stand the stuff when it burns. Give me a nice dank aloeswood, a chunk of copal and maybe a pince of egyptian amber, ahhhh. There are tons of combinations of scents when you buy the basics. This requires a burner that can hold extreme heat.Yours will not.It doesn't matter.95% of the population burns sticks. That a pretty fricken good market.Good luck, looks like you got orders to fill.Peace
