Hi there,

We are beginners and would like to know how to differentiate between the male and female plants? Also, what do we do with the males (grow & smoke them, use for seeds...or destroy)?

The guys at the store sold us 2-40 watt flourescent indoor plant growing lights with an ouput of 1600.
(It sounds like this isn't enough) Lights are on 18 hours per day.

We are using organic potting mix containing sphagnum peat moss, composted bark finds and vermiculite.

Our fertilizer is 20-20-20 which we have not used as of yet, not sure if this ok.

We have 3" baby plants and we are extremely excited.

If anyone with experience growing primo bud has any advice, please feel free to advise us we would appeciate it!

Males will have flowers that resemble little banana clusters, whilst the girls will have the twin white hairs coming from the calyx.

A decent grow book will have pictures of them.

Don't give up.

I highly recommend the book "Grow 8 Oz's of Herb for under $100" by: Seymour Budds ....(I've seen it at BArnes and Nobel and Borders, and they have stores all over...so YES you can buy a copy for cash in the US.)

I may be off slightly on the title, but it's a really excellent book, with a step by step, photo a day sort of guide. Awesome method for using regular old compact flourescents and Miracle Grow to grow 1-4 really exceptional plants. This is the best book I've ever seen for a person with access to genetics, $150 (the extra money is for a camera, rolling papers and the cost of that book), and 3 months of secure/private access to a closet type space.

Set up, sexing and other vital methods/steps needed to go from seed to ashtray...all in there.

Last time I checked, you can download a free copy of Closet cultivator by Ed Rosental as a PDF if you google it....sexing info inside.

Of course, none of these suggestions or things should be attempted unless it is for legal for you do so for medical purposes.

Happy happy.

O I agree with the book recommendation for new growers - in fact I wrote a review on it in the MJGuide! :)

Nice to hear someone else checked it out!
