View Full Version : Who are you voting for in the May1st Election?
For me, my first choice is going to be Boris Johnson. My second choice is either BNP or the Christian party???
The reason for this is tacticle voting. I know that the BNP would never get in. The christian party. Maybe a bad idea for a diverse City of different religions.
I would vote Boris because he seems to be the only candidate with real ideas. I hate his hairstyle; a sleeping cat on his head that has been blown about by the wind.
Additional. On may 2nd. Any vote on this thread after may 2nd would be invalid. I flamingoed up. Should have put 7 days on my poll.

Greens have a candidate in EVERY ward in Cambridge, so people in/near there, vote Green!

Should have put 7 days on my poll. The BNP are quite dangerously close to getting a seat on the London Assembley. If that happens, it's going to be an absolute disaster and I think it would reflect very poorly on race relations in Britain. Voting BNP is voting racist. If you must throw your vote away on a bunch of far right nutjobs, go for the Christians or English Democrats, as they're never going to get anywhere. Though I do have to wonder about you John if you're tempted to vote either. Anyone who votes BNP is a fuckwit in my opinion, whether they think of themselves as racist or not....

Anyone who votes BNP is a fuckwit in my opinion, whether they think of themselves as racist or not....I agree, anyone who considers voting BNP is either painfully ignorant because they don't realise what kind of party it is, or a nasty piece of work because they do...

Definitely, it bloody worries me when I hear about them being close to getting power. A party consisting of so many convicted violent criminals should not be allowed to stand for government. They just seem to be purely running on ignorance and hate.

Yup, the BNP are really nasty pieces of work.. I'm sure if they came to power, a "Final Solution" wouldn't be too far behind. That's after the Holocaust denial has been in schools for a while, so kids don't remember anything pesky like the slaughter of 6 million Jews...

Well.. living in London i get to vote lots.
I have a friend running for the Green Party for the London Assembly so i suspect i'll vote for him.
Then for Mayor.. First preference Ken Livingstone.. second preference probably Sian Berry (Green)..or Lindsey German (LeftList) - havnt decided that one yet.
Please dont vote BNP!!!!!
I wish I hadn't started this poll. Is it just me or has the forums finally revealed a darker shade of blue?
Okey, you twisted my arm *Snap. On second preference, I am going to vote for Christian party. I don't support them, but is tacticle voting. My first vote goes for Boris Johnson.

Eek, not tories Ny! Quick disown them before it's too late :) . I had a bit of a shock when my (rather camp) tory mate came rather close to saying recriminalising homosexuality wouldn't be a bad thing :O
First choice, Boris Johnson.
Second Choice. British National party.
Yellow paper, Christian Alliance
White Paper>Christian alliance.
My voting was tacticle. I know British National party won't get in. They are simply racist bastards(apparently) who support Neo nazi and have candidly declared that they would support a No Alien policy.
I vote boris johnson because he has the ideas that may just get London through into a new era of positive creativity. Ken has had his day.
I know I supported British National Party on second preference. If that makes me neo nazi or a "Fuckwit". These are merely words. Words that do not relate to who I am. As the old saying goes: "You can't judge other's without first judging yourself".
Additional: This is Great Britain, not Zimbabwe where you would be beaten up or even killed because you chose a different party. I hope this thread can reflect that fact, without some people resorting to verbal attacks just because I or someone didn't vote the same as them:) Good day ladies and Gentleducks.

I think you're an idiot. You're an idiot who voted for a nazi racist and you can dress that up however you like, but it's the truth. Every vote for the BNP is additional propaganda for them. It's them getting into the news with a higher figure. It's them telling people who might not vote for them because they think they'll never get in that they actually have a chance. Every vote is them being closer to a seat next time. If you really wanted to vote for someone who didn't have a chance to get in, you had plenty of other choices. But for some reason known only to you you chose one of the most dangerous, most dispicable parties in this county. And yes, this has coloured my judgement of you. We both voted green and felt very good knowing we had done it, especially with our future plans. Of course the green party has a tiny fraction of a chance of going far, but its our feelings and we made them known as opposed to voting in more fascist ridiculousness, or keeping silent and useless, and it feels good to have done our small bit:)
The Conservatives have gained a majority it looks like:)
Tonight, we Londoners will find out who is next London Mayor. I hope Boris Johnson gets in. Other's may want Brian Paddick or Ken Livingstone.

05-03-2008, 08:56 PM
Finnaz, would you say Stalin was left of centre? Or Castro? How about Ahmadinejad?
I didn't say they were moderates. Depends how you define your left/right really, I think it works better as an economic spectrum, as i meant it. If you just lump fascism and racism in as right wing, then it just becomes messy - I mean, take the Communist Mugabe - fascist and racist, no? (unless you mean Mussolini's definition of fascism)
Finnaz
05-03-2008, 11:04 PM
Yeah, on the political compass I would. left-wing Authoritarians. The BNP are centrist authoritarians. Though centrist tends to imply moderate. It's a rather confusing mishmash to be honest, but yeah, when you say left wing people associate it with left wing liberal sorta politics, and right wing with right wing authoritarian politics, or at least I do.

Hahaha good point, taking a gander at the political compass site, the greens are the only left wing libertarian party. The others are either in the completely wrong box (new labour, conservatives and a few others in right-wing authoritarian) or just right wing or just authoritarian. The green's really do need to get more votes. Shame they can't just hire ken and merge with left list, they'd stand a fair chance of winning then.
Im not talking about your vote. Infact youre the one who keeps mentioning your vote! I was talking about the grammar of course:rolleyes: But nevermind:)Oh come on duck. I know what you meant, but never mind hey. Boris is in, but in four years time who knows? I saw Gordon Bennet Brown on Sky News today. He was trying to charm voters into having confidence in the Labour party. This is after the following:
Since Labour came to Power, the cost of living has gone up. Food, utility bills and even petrol prices. This has all be excessive over the last five years of course. Then Gordon abolishes the ten pence tax rate, making it virtually impossible for low paid workers to meet the cost of living.
Those on Benefits are actually better off than those in a full time job.
Now Gordon Brown and his Labour Government have been hit hard in the yarbles. Conservatives may have messed up thirty years ago, but I have a feeling that they may have changed. Confidence in the Conservative party is growing. I wasn't the only one who voted conservative. There were many other's. We can't all be wrong?

If you just lump fascism and racism in as right wing, then it just becomes messy - I mean, take the Communist Mugabe - fascist and racist, no? (unless you mean Mussolini's definition of fascism)That's a fair assessment. In purely economic terms the BNP are fairly centrist, though they have a confusing mish-mash of poorly thought out policies which I think would utterly ruin the economy if they were put into place. You pretended to vote BNP in order to demonstrate that people on a lefty website are against fascism? Well done you! You've made enough comments about supporting the BNP in the past for me not to believe you, so I suspect you're just (rightly) ashamed of it...One last time. Boris Johnson is Mayor. I voted for Boris Johnson and he got in. Now he is Mayor, like the rest of us, we must tolerate whatever policies he throws at us. Some policies will be better than others or worse than others or downright controversial. But the fact is, he is a Mayor who the vast majority of the public voted for. As you know, Labour took a battering in the national polls in Wales, Scotland and here in England. This was a Conservative gain because of the many years of Labour which has started to cripple the hardup in more ways than one. Forgive me if I didn't vote Ken Livingstone for a third term. Once again, since Ken came into power, the cost of living in London has become shocking. It costs 4.00 single tube fare and double that return. So if for instance I wanted to go to Leiscetsr square from say Piccadilly Circus, it would cost me four pounds. But in other Cities, this would have been 1/3 that fare. Probably a quid fifty or something. But due to Ken Livingstone,we have the congestion charge. If I voted him for a third term, those who drive supposedly high polluting vehicles would have to pay a 25 pound daily charge. This would amount to atleast hundred pounds or more a week for those who use their car to travel in from places like Luton, Windsor or Croydon. Of course, you might they should use public transport. But do you know how much a yearly season ticket costs? We are talking thousands!*
I have confidence in Boris because he put his campaign so well and he seemed genuine, someone who understood the problems that face Londoners. There are always going to be those who will gripe, whinge and moan because he got in, rather than their beloved Ken Livingstone. Nethertheless, what is important is that we appreciate political, religious and ethnic diversity in London. That is what makes London so unique. We have such tolerance of diversity. I hope that you are tolerant of such diversities. But like I said, Boris is Mayor. The foot has come down, the foot is spoken. Boris Johnson won a massive amount of votes and this is what the vast majority regardless of ethnicity wanted!
As the votes are closed and Election day has passed by like a cloud of discontent. I reckon we should just accept the reality or leave London. If Boris pains you so much. You either need a break from London or you should call the Samaritans.^
Just an idea: Maybe you should write a secret Diary. You could call it, "The growing pains of Lith". :chill: chill man, its summer.
