Ill first start off by saying that I had never heard of the rainbow family before a couple of years ago and I have never been to a gathering, but I have done much research on the family and have wanted to attend a gathering for quite some time. The only reason I havent been able to go to a gathering is that Im an inexperienced traveler who has absolutely no friends that would consider going with me and other obstacles like work and college. So for fear of being on the road inexperienced and alone, I have only gotten to know the rainbow family through differnet websites/videos and reading some of your posts on this forum. Recently the rainbow family has been popping up at random moments in my life. For example, the family was mentioned in the book i am currently reading, on a program I saw on tv, and by one of my professors. Having never even heard of the rainbow family's existance until I found it online, I am kinda thinking that maybe these random occurances are some sort of sign. Ive been constantly thinking about traveling lately and I really just want to get out there and expierience life. I feel like I have been stuck in the same place, sitting in the same class rooms day after day letting my life slip by without truely experiencing freedom. I do want to finish college but I need something else to help me live and I think that maybe the rainbow family might be what Im looking for. Traveling and going to gatherings would allow me to meet so many great new people who would probably understand me alot better than the people in my life right now. So I guess I would just appricate your opinions on what I should do...Im a horrible decision-maker and usually need encouragement from others to actually go through with something. Thanks for listening :)

I am new to the whole thing too, but I have decided to jump in head first!! I'm going to have to wait till I move to really get involved with local events.. but, I think its going to end up being a very large part of my life... and I am very much looking forward to it. I think if you want to give it a try, you should! I dont know about any signs or anything, but as a friend told me, "you find rainbow when your ready" and it definately sounds to me like you are.
Your situation sounds similar to mine, in that you dont really have any friends to travel with, and with my move and all I'm not going to know anyone... but that is an easy problem to solve... do a google search for a local group of rainbows or search myspace... then email them! The rainbows I have met thusfar arent exactly shy, and probly wont be offended by your forwardness, in fact I can almost guarentee that they will email you back - with a big friendly hello! I am kind of shy, so I emailed a few people where I am headed and made their aquaintance... I figured it might make it a bit less awkward if I knew a few names and faces when I show up for the weekly meet-ups.
Anyway, I think for sure you should give it a shot, especially if the only thing holding you back is not wanting to go alone!

some of the times you are shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

That's called synchronicity and they are often your higher self pointing you towards your destiny.

Remember that speech Bilbo Baggins gives in Fellowship of the Ring (the novel, not the movie)where he warns Frodo to beware that path that leads out his front door, for it not only leads to the friendly local tavern, but also to the Dragon's Mountain, and to even worse places? Well, he was right. Have fun.
