But I have always wanted to go to montana. Has anybody ever been? In my sig is a photo I took in the lake district in England. If you got rid of the sheep and put cowboys on horses in that picture, would it look like montana?
Thankyou.

well, depending on what part of montana you are in
western montana is nothing like eastern montana
W. montana is more mountainous, while E. montana is more flat land, wheat and corn fields

Thankyou.i've never been there either, but i'm pretty sure the answer to your second question is probably not. the montana in my mind, and what i've seen of it in pictures, is a LOT more densely forested.
and there ARE reasons i'd like to go and live there. there or b.c. canada. or the south end of the south island of new zealand. or maybe some of the less touristie parts of switzerland.
i grew up in mountains with trees. lots of trees. in a part of california people not from california probably don't think of as.
what attracts me to montana, is that is/was one of only two states in the u.s., with at least some counties not having, let alone enforcing building codes, that would make it difficult or impossible for me to build and live in the kind of houses i would like to.
i don't know where all this horses and cowboy crap comes from. yes there are people, mostly yound girls, who love horses. most cattle ranching and herding involves pickup trucks more then horses. for that matter so does most open range sheep herding. although walking, dogs, and lead donkeys are sometimes used as well.
cowponies are mostly old movie crap. there may be a few places where they are still used but that is way more an almost extreme exception.
there are/were some wild horses on open beaurough of land management land out in nevada and some places like that. nevada incidently being the only other state in the continental u.s. with the exception to building codes in some counties like in montana. this wild horse herds are protected now, like any other endangered species which, for all practical purposes they are.
of course none of this information may still be current. everything in this country always chainges, often those most adamantly pretending it doesn't and to oppose its doing so being most often the most responsible for its doing so.

 That's not really all that funny...but it still made me laugh.

It was funny, but it lacked class and laughing at it indicated a general lack of self respect on your part.
Shame, shame.

I am not from new zealand so no.
Themnax, I like forested mountains too. There are trees right up to the highest peak behind my town, although behind my town its mostly big hills and not mountains. Its really pretty to see carpets of forest stretching up into the clouds.
England and Scotland are pretty bleak on the summits, beautiful and eerie but bleek.
