No drama this year folks, maybe thats why there are no postings on the subject yet. Looks like its beautiful Wyoming! So who all is planning to go? Any stories or memories from the past 2 Wyoming nationals? Id like to go for spring scout but I may not make that. Hope to see a lot of family this year. Peace!

there have been some postings on other forums concerning communications between USFS, The Dept of Agri, & folks who are interested in that aspect of Rainbow. A conference call is set up for early March.

Last WY Gathering was dry...really dry...but a great Gathering. There's video footage of the fire Fam fought at WY'94, but off-hand I don't have a link for it

I went to thanksgiving council meeting in Montana and have been pumped up and ready for it ever since. 'Bout time we had a national in the rockies. Hope to see everyone there!

Didn't we just have a Natl. in the Rockies? CO '06? It was beautiful, and I had a hard time leaving.

I was in WY for the fires in '94, also. It was actually my first Natl., so this year will be a special homecoming for me, if I manage to get us there. I'm working on figuring out the gas situation even now, but it's going to be tight however it works.

I've been checking out Google Earth lately, looking for possible meadows with access, treeline camping, water, relatively low altitude (for WY, anyway), and so far (from space, at least), the general area of the '94 gathering seems to have more of the site criteria than most other WY regions. But... since I won't be able to make it to Scouting I guess ultimately it will be left up to others to make those decisions. I wish them sunny skies and clear roads!

Blessings,
WendyLady

I'm going to try my hardest to make it out there. The CO gathering in 2006 in the rockies was AMAZING!!! I fell in love with the rockies.

Hello Sweet WendyLady! So glad to see you here on HipForums!! You might be able to ride share to help with the gas, should be quite a few southern-based folks passing thru your neck of the woods.

This will be my first national gathering. I went to the cali regional last year in mendo and that was a wonderful time. I wanted to go to ark last year but didnt at the last minute. I am interested in the scouting aspect and have found the Scroll site that has good up to date info with dates for scouting and counsils . Ive heard of agr but it seems to have quit the crew there and lots of rumors. I found the video on the 94 gathering in Wyoming and was impressed, very nice site. Anyhow, I just wanted to get everyones juices flowing as the snow is still very deep here and I cant wait for spring and Im sure some are feeling the same way. Loving you all! Peace.

I would love to scout but will be in West Virginia at the same time. Am planning on leaving West Virginia (near Logan) for Wyoming and sure would like to have others join me along for the journey. I have a 40' Schoolie with lots of room inside, plenty of room for gear and supplies.

Leave me a note here or skoolie7@gmail.com.

Last night I came across this site and found it to be very interesting. The FS can post an area as closed to protect resources or due to possible wildlife threats to humans. There is no description of the signs or how or where they are to be placed.

Hi Cinnamon,

Good to see you as well! I've been a member for quite a while, but just started reading and posting lately. Couldn't take agr anymore, and I was never really a poster there, just a lurker. Never anything about the actual gathering there, anyway, just endless trolling about permits and general flame sessions. So I'm here, lookin' for the love...

Having a rider to the Natl. would be ideal, if we have room. I have a soon-to-be 7y/o, and our gear takes up most of the available space in our mid-size... Long gone are the days of just me and my pack. Now it's tent, sleeping bags, pillows, air mattress (arthritis takes it's toll, as do roots and rocks... lol), folding chairs, etc... Maybe I could streamline the packing process and fit one sister or brother with a small to med. pack, but I tried to find a rider last year and never did. We didn't make it home...

I'm not sure when we'll be able to leave this year. I'm hoping by late June. Do you think you might make it this year? I'd love to come back with a couple of your incredible tie-dyes!

Blessings,
WendyLady

agr...I am so thankful that I haven't had even enough time to lurk there in recent weeks...If it weren't for wonderful places like HipForums, I would have given up on the whole idea of conversing with Fam over the 'devil box' (me'n'JuJu were anti-computer for many years, still are in some ways but now we both understand that it's all in how one uses a computer). What I really love about HipForums Rainbow folks is that we can have discussions about permits & other 'strong-felt by both sides' issues without a flame war breaking out & there's a lot more love shown here than in some forums.

I'll try to keep my ears open for a good rider for you. Funny how we need more stuff when we're very young or old, and not even all that old at that ;) ahhh, for those days in my 20's!

Once again, I'm doubtful that we'll make it Home in the physical sense, but we're always there in the Spiritual sense, which is the sense that really matters..but who knows... If I can't get all the way Home this year, I really want to at least get in a trip to OK to see Miss Joy at the Vortex in Arkoma

The west coast is in my <3, but I probably can't go. One of these years, I will make it to my first gathering. Is it generally the case that it switches coasts each year? Maybe I could make it in '09.

soaringeagle
02-25-2008, 07:21 AM
3 days? u can go coast to coast in bout 46 hours if u dont stop constantly
it suposedly switches each year but thats not really the case, its west more often then not lately, and whereever it is is where it is, waiting for it to come to you will just mean ya miss out more often then not
if u want to go, u gotta go...it could be 20 years between gatherings in a particular state so if your just gonna wait till its close u may never get there
wy will be so beautiful, 1 i definately dont want to miss...sure its a long drive and not easy to get to, but that makes it just that much more worthwhile

I reread the FS article and I think it may leave a few openings and surprises due to the way it is written and some common definitions.

...just really should be in Vermont or New Hampshire. There are awsome spots in VT, as well as in the White mountains. Wish i could be at the gathering to voice it, but being farmers in vermont means you can't just take off for two weeks to go to the gathering in June/July...impossible. Come on family...show some love for beautiful vermont... the only state in the union with towns that will arrest Bush and his sidekick on sight as war criminals.....the only state G.W. has never visited...beautiful, rugged people....billboards are illegal...the only state capitol with no McDonalds...abundant local organic food...more Food Co-ops per capita than California. I could go on and on, but I won't. Just really sending some manifestation! Big love.

We are in Montana and have direct contact with people who know what's going on with scouting and eventually the spring council location TBA. As we know spring council is energized by seed camp family.A great time to plug in if you want to get involved with the work. Scouting council is in WY May 1st. Location will be posted closer to the date. Interested? Well then get ready to get your beautiful self there and plug in. Peace.

scouting in early May sounds about right for northern areas...last year's scouting council was in April. seed camp won't probably start until sometime in June tho...once a good spot is found & after spring council happens.

Thanks for the info BigSky! Please check out the Rainbow group features; there's a group calender, a group message forum and other groovy features that will help folks find info

Hey, all. I'm looking to go to the gathering in WY this summer. I have no car, and am traveling with 3 kids, which makes it a little hard. I honestly don't know that I'll be able to afford the bus tickets, which will run me around $676. I would be happy to put in for some gas, though, if anyone has room for us in their ride. Sounds like lots of family stuck in Bush's manufactured energy crisis... can't afford the gas, can't afford the bus... Same situation myself, me and my little dolphin spirit. Doesn't look to good for us this year. At least we have a running vehicle, but only just. It seems like every spring around the time we want to start preparing to head for home something starts to go wrong with the car. This time it's the radiator, last year it was the water pump and the year before it was a c-v joint. Even if the car was ok the price of gas is so far out of reach I can only make it to the grocery store about twice a month, much less to WY from OK.

Anyone else notice how even though the fed says there's no hanky-panky going on with the oilies, the price still seems to climb up into the ozone every spring just when folks want to get out and about after a long bleak winter. And what's up with all the stations charging the same price??? I thought there were supposed to be anti price-fixing laws...?

Sorry about the rant... I really did intend to just post about how much we're wanting to get home this year, since WY '94 was my first Natl. It would be so beautiful to see that sky again. I am also in need of a few hundred hugs...

Not giving up yet... please send up a traveling prayer for us, family! Lovin' you!!!

Really just a chance to camp in the woods before the big show, talk about good spots, so all who are near should come! I don't know if I'll go yet, even Utah to WY is a ga$. I see lots of people http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/newsmilies/4/more/62.gif looking for a ride to the Gathering. Well here is an opportunity to travel and share the cost of fuel.
http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/newsmilies/party.gif

I have a School Bus built for 89 students and have plenty room for riders and supplies. Most of the seats are gone so it is really a big open box on wheels.

I am leavinghttp://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/newsmilies/leaving.gif from the area near Logan WV during the first week of June for the Gathering. Amtrak stops in Charleston, Huntington WV and Ashland KY. Greyhound stops in Huntington and Charleston, not sure about Ashland.

skoolie7@gmail.com with any questions that you have. My route if flexable and can pick up riders along the way.

I'm quite certain this is some Road Runner the Younger, not Roadrunner the Elder from Cali that works info. Made me do a double take, too. Anybody know if Roadrunner is still alive? When I saw him at the CA Gathering he'd lost a lot of weight.

I'm working in Wyoming this summer and I was so psyched when I saw the gathering is here this year. I haven't been able to make it to one yet. I'm from Colorado and just happened to be away for work a couple of years ago when it was there, I was so bummed.

can anybody give me information about where the gathering is going to be besides the state, i know its not decided yet, but maybe just the dates of the councils and where scout camp is going to be or whatever... i know this is kind of a vague request, im just trying to make my plans for this summer and it would help if i could find out more info about where the gathering will or where they will be deciding it, even an outside like would workWy 502 396 2129.

Hey everyone, I know it is still almost a month before coucil decides but I was wondering if there is a general radius being considered. Reason being I have got a friend who is trying to meet us up there around june 15th by greyhound and we're trying to find the best little town to post him. So I don't know if this question will be eaier to answer as it gets closer to coucil or if we really are just completly in the dark until then. So what ya think?

Well the scouts are/were checking out N.E Wyoming. Low altitude gathering sites up yonder that way. Other than that I know of a awsome spot southeast of Jackson Hole. Hoback Junction towards Pinedale where the scout council was in the beginnig of May. I believe they will meet there again in early June for a progress report on potential sites. I do have a phone number of some friends scouting right now and can hook you up with more information once I get in touch with them. See you on the land. Peace.

I am into to Burning Man and they drink ton of alcohol. For me, because I work for the system, I cannot use drugs and the Rainbows ban booze which for me is a good thing. For me, the gathering is sober and clean event while the man is full of booze and rowdy party people. But you do not need booze there and you will having amazing times.

For me, a person with a history of alcohol problems, the gathering is more safer place than the Burn. Since I have no desire to do illegal drugs and I will do not need to drink, than I am seriously looking for alcohol-free week to spend some with amazing people.

So me and about 4 other guys are comin up to the gathering on the 15th. 2 have been before. How self sufficient do we need to be? food and water wise. How many people should we expect. We will be there through the 25th of june. We are prepared to work, but i just wanted to make sure the experience will be good for their first time. I figured it will just be more family oriented and less chaos but the earliest I've shown up is the 23ish. so whacha think?

Then do your homework ;)

I'm sitting still til after 25th but I'm driving in from WI

Okay, so Google Maps says I'll be driving through the top half of Florida, the middle of Georgia, Tennessee, the corner of Kentucky & Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska.

I'm probably going to cheat my way to the Gathering by getting a gas credit card and then paying it off afterward, so any gas money assistance would be absolutely grand. We'll have room for one or two, maybe even three because I'm not sure how commited one of our riders is.

Well, I hope to drive out on or after June 25th taking my sweet time ;)
Am looking at possible caravan to meet up with (safer)
Also might take on 1 or 2 riders
Taking I-80 from WI to WY (better mileage)
With no set return time

Hugs :)

Word from the scouts this morning is that all the sites under consideration
at this point are in western Wyoming. Spring Council will happen within 50
miles of Pinedale, Wyoming and exact directions to Spring Council will be
available at the end of the week. If you're flying, Salt Lake City is the
airport.
