View Full Version : Help With Grow Journals
I need some help setting up the grow journals. Not being much of a grower myself, I don't know all the "categories" of stuff out there. I'm creating lists of things that describe a grow so that ppl can just select items from lists describing what kind of grow they have.
For instance for lighting I have:
incandescent
florescent
CFS
HID
LED
Hybrid
What am I missing?
Other categories:
1.types of soil
2. nutrient delivery systems (hydro, aero, NFT (whatever that is), ebb & flow, stealth (anymore?)
3. location (outdoors, indoors, greenhouse - what else?)
4. Organic vs Non-Organic vs ???
5. Size (small-huge based on # of plants)
Any more important categories to define a grow?
By adding these items to each grow journal, ppl can search for journals that match their conditions. So each category will also be a search criteria.
Thanks to whomever can help with this! :)

Security is a big factor in any kind of MJ grow.
Also breeding and cloning should have an area.
Just thoughts. It is your show.

Hey Skip! Might be able to lend a hand in this area.
For instance for lighting I have:
incandescent
florescent
CFS
HID
LED
HybridThis list sounds pretty good. I don't think there should be a category for incandescents though. Incandescents don't supplement the plant with the right kind of light and really aren't any good much past sprouting. Only other thing on the lighting is instead of CFS its CFL's. Everything else on the lighting seems perfect!
Other categories:
1.types of soil
2. nutrient delivery systems (hydro, aero, NFT (whatever that is), ebb & flow, stealth (anymore?)
3. location (outdoors, indoors, greenhouse - what else?)
4. Organic vs Non-Organic vs ???
5. Size (small-huge based on # of plants)Heres my 2 cents on this one. I'll put it in a list, cause if I explain it, it will take a long post. Just maybe break it down like this.
Indoor Grows
Soil
-Organic
-Non-Organic
-Micro
Hydro
-Organic, Non-Organic
-Micro (Not very common for hydro, but possible)
-Ebb & Flow
-DWC (Deep Water Culture)
-Drippers (Top Feed)
-NFT (Nutrient Film Technique.......people very rarely use this method)
-Aeroponics
-Soilless
-Coco Coir (Kind of a toss up between Hydro and Soil)
Outdoor Grows
-Out in the open
-Greenhouse
Harvesting & Processing (Questions on harvest, trimming, drying, or curing)
Growroom Design
-Cabinet
-Closet
-Other
Thats all I can think of for right now. Ill probably think of more later.
EDIT:: Forgot to mention, I also think it would be nice to have a Breeding and a Cloning section. Security could maybe be a sub-forum in the grow room design section.

Thanks, 420, that's a good list! I'm hoping to finish the grow journals this week. That should be a big attraction for growers.
I've customized the journals so that ppl can keep track of multiple grows, simultaneously if need be.
I'll need you guys to check out the journals when they're done. There will probably be a few bugs around, and it'll be a good time for feedback on the design.
Let me know of any other features you think would be a benefit in the journals.
I know some ppl like to micromanage their grows and take notes on everything. Others just want a simple easy to use interface to post up pixs of their grows.
The journals will evolve over time, but I want to introduce new features that aren't in other forum based journals.
Hey what about a final tally/summary for a grow? # of plants harvested, problems encountered, yield after trimming?
420, do you think it's a better idea to just let ppl describe their lighting than try to categorize it?
The reason I ask is because we also want to know what wattage lamps they use and how many.
Those could be separate fields, or just keep it as a text entry instead of multiple choice.
What do you think? (before I go any further with that).
Never mind, I've turned it into a text field so ppl can describe lighting as much as they like! :)
It will still be searchable, so ppl can look up by type or wattage or any other lighting criteria. We're also not locked into certain types in case new types of lighting gain popularity (like LED).

Skip I have a 30+MB file the old OG grow tutorial, also OG's nute deficiency chart, where there are leaf pics and a description of why they look that way!
send me an add. to drop it in, U can see if we can use it!
And thanx for gettin' a place we may direct newbies!
Naturalhi, that sounds great, but do we have the right to use OG's content? I know it's gone and I suppose it would be a great service, esp. to those who contributed.
We prefer not to use content from other websites, but I'm not sure about the situation with a defunct site.
It seems others have content from OG too, and have offered to post it up! I would be happy to do so, but who can say ok?
