I remembering tye-dying shirts at camp when I was nine or ten, it was fun. =3 I even still have the shirt, but I remember the colors fading really quickly, like less than a month after I dyed it. Does anyone know where I can get dye that won't fade so quickly? ^^

Like most professional tie-dyers, we use Procion dyes...the colors bond with the fabric so the colors stay bright for a long time. You can get Procion in a lot of places, we use dharma trading.

I have heard hairspay or vinnegar helps set the color

Dharma Trading is a company out of California...they sell all sorts of supplies for textile arts, including bulk procion dyes & procion dye kits
I've heard that people use vinnegar to help set dyes like RIT but I can't verify that as I've never tried it...I've only used Rit once & I used the boiling bath/cold bath method

I use soda ash and water to rinse the material first, and it's supposed to help the color stay.

Soda ash is the activator for dyes like procion, which is a fiber reactive dye. I'm not sure if it would help set RIT dye & I'm pretty sure that it would reactive bad with a fabic paint, like deka, which is a heat-set application. It all depends on the dye you use. (and different fabrics will dye better with certain dyes)
