Escape From Las Vegas. By: Matt Thomas

Favorite memories? IF I had to pick one, it would have to be my entire Junior year in High School. I lived in Northern Minnesota that year, in a small town called Park Rapids. At first, this city boy was bored to tears. I didn't know anyone, and was used to City Life. (Silly me!) Little did I know, that one day, in second period English, I got a blinding headache. (The luckiest event in my LIFE!) I went to the School Nurse, for aspirin.

She gave me two Tylenol, and made me lie down for the rest of the hour. I awoke to a beautiful site. Her name was Donna. I ended up taking her to the "Homecoming" dance. I didn't drive yet, so my Brother-In-Law drove us. He kept his eyes on the road! What a guy!

The following week, a stranger in a long trench coat approached me. I was Off school grounds because I wanted a cigarette. Turns out, I still talk to Randy, TODAY. (I was 19 then, I’m 43 now.) He introduced me to some people, our group eventually did lots of things together. Hay Rides, Keggers, Camping, Midnight BOAT runs for Beer & Pizza from the place across the lake. I remember we won the homecoming game that year… (Just not the score)

This will be my story.

It began, after my father died. My mother, thinking she couldn’t finish raising me alone, packed our things, and headed for My sisters house in Minnesota. My sister was married with three sons of her own. But, her husband was willing to help. He may hate me today for some mistakes I’ve made, but, I’m glad for everything he did for me. Including Physical Threats when I needed one!

I remember taking Macey out. I was a perfect gentleman. I was 19. That turned out to be the wrong way for me to act. I never saw her again. She was maybe 4 foot tall, 98 pounds. Blonde hair, Baby blue eyes.

Cute as a button, and would fit in your pocket.

I think, the following weekend, Me, Randy, Fran and Virgil went on a Hayride with girlfriends and nobody cared or teased me because I was alone.. That was the night we “Borrowed” a boat, and went for Pizza and a six-pack from a bar across the lake. That same summer we held a Kegger in Massey Field. I Had to crawl home that night. Glad it was less than a mile away!
