Growing Opium Poppies

Does texas have a suitable climate to grow opium poppies and if yes then in what season?

I've tried repeatedly in N. TX and none get much farther than sprouting. If you find the secret, let me know.

In Austin/Hill Country, they do very well.

There was a member on here a while ago who told me that he found them growing near his house! But I've never been to TX so I cant confirm that. I wouldn't doubt that member though.
