I was brought up in the optimistic nineties
Born in the wake of Thatcher, Born under a bush
With optimistic dreams after that coldest of wars
With Shiny Happy People and images of peace and unity
With those Genocidal bullets unloaded, life looked up.
Then the towers fell...

The perpetrators escaped and the many blamed,
We saw flames, they saw Dollars and votes and Riches
We saw dust, they saw conquest and war and power
We saw Blood, they saw oil..

They shout out the names of their gods
But their gods look down, sobbing and asking why
We March no their doorsteps shouting their names,
but they just sit behind the broad shouldered bobbies...

Where did the peace go? Did it fall with the towers?
No, it's there, if only people would stop and listen...

I was born under a Bush, and I still am under there.
