I was reading an article in a local Pagan magazine.(cheaply made but cost $5) I usually find some interesting stuff recipes and nice stories. One article really burned my butt. As many know I am a huge Loreena McKennitt fan. I have come to respect that whether or not she has a religion or spiritual belief she has chosen to stay private about it. Understandable. What I HATE is these Pagans (this one who wrote the article happens to be Wiccan as well) Who want to "out" people or "claim" some people as their own. Here it is bear with me. I am typing this out from the magazine. Forgive me if there are any mistakes. The print was a paint to read it looks like the old fashion typewriter print. Here goes:

Celtic Songstress in Denial

Yes, You read it right. The singer/musician I am referring to is Loreena McKennitt. She gained popularity on mainstream radio with her song The Mummer's Dance back in 1997. Many Pagans, Witches and Wiccans have taking a liking to her mystical lyrics and classy world music sound. Some of her songs delve into pagan subjects such as All Souls Night referring to the Pagan New Year. Samain Night, Huron "Beltane" Fire Dance and Standing Stones. It's no secret there is a fascination with the Old Ways also a title of one of her songs. Granted she has made references to Christianity and Sufism, He songs are not the reason why I think she may in fact be in the "Broom Closet" It is the comments she has made hinting she may be a pagan herself.
Here are a few quotes. 1991 promotion for her album "The Visit"
Here she is discussing her work on a documentary about the burning times where some of her music is heard.
She is discussing the Celts at this point in the interview.

"Because of the earth religion connection to that whole culture, That is something that I connect very strongly with."

This one from 2002 when an interviewer asked if she believed in God.

"Interviewer: Do you believe in God? *
L.M.: I keep searching. It depends on what someone means with the word “God”. The word is so heavily filled with conclusions. I think that science has tried to explain and describe how things work but from the few things that I have read I understood that scientists explain the “how” -for instance, how the brain functions or what is the procedure to cry- but they cannot explain the “why”. And that is definitely a big question. Some times I feel that if there exists a superior power we are part of an experiment. For now I just feel respect to the universal powers of nature."*

Well, Loreena all I have to say is Come out! We know you want to. Why are so many pagans in the media afraid to let themselves be known? I think we would all benefit if those closet Witches stepped out once and for all.

Blessed be

Sorry for another rant but I had to do it. Any opinions?

If anything this is going to backfire, after all who would want to admit to associatiing with such loons.

They should just enjoy the music for what it is. Everyone is entitled to their privacy, she must have her perfectly valid reasons.

Are you annoyed that she's not coming out or that the HP assumed she was pagan in the first place.

I personally find it quite funny. The way anytime something creative exists people try to pin it down to being to do with them, that's not what it's about.

Blessings

I'm annoyed HP thinks she is. She wrote another article an update on some new re-releases and she through in another dig.
I agree with you. I hate when people must clump people in on form or another.

UGH!

spirituality is a tricky thing... many people are spiritual but unsure what it is exactly they believe in.
