Abbie was one smart dude. He recognized that America was being programmed by the media. He saw the power there, waiting to be tapped. Everything he did as a Yippie was chosen for its potential media impact. He knew that if he could get the mainstream media to cover an event, he could reach more ppl with his message than any other way.

No one since then, with perhaps the exception of Al Sharpton have been able to get the media to repeat what they say.

Abbie was great at finding ingenious ways to circumvent the system. His book "Steal This Book", was the ultimate anti-capitalist rant. But it wasn't just words and politics, it's full of practical (if now dated) info on how to survive in a dog-eat-dog society.

He and Jerry Rubin & the other Yippies laid their lives on the line for change.

I RARELY ever see that anymore in America, esp. from the younger generations who have been thoroughly brainswashed by the media.

The same media that has tried to REVISE HISTORY concerning the 1960s and the massive protests against our system - which verged on the edge of REVOLUTION.

That's something this country is RIPE for now. If only people had balls instead of bills they'd be on the streets demanding CHANGE!

This country is soooo SAD because it's not the same one I was born in...

I think I would agree with a lot this person has to say.

I really dug Abbie... He was a quintessential product of the times... ie, Jewish kid with an good grasp of the world around him.... Sure, he was as much a self effacing buffoon as rhetorical firebrand. Heck, that was part of the whole package.. see Wavy Gravy "if 'ya can't laugh at it, then life just ain't funny no more".... BTW... those recipies for LSA etc are lame as hell... just a product of the times and not enough chem research........ In todays world it merely takes a concerted effort/mind and a couple of weeks on the net to come up with an drug recipe/explosive recipe one wants... So.... in the final analysis, it comes down to the same thing it always has.......... Question:::: " Who 'Ya Wanna Be?????================== Squid

Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin represent the wrong turn the anti-war movement took in 1968. With his raggedy appearance, his public use of obscene language, and his presumed promiscuity he represented the "dirty hippy" stereotype that alienated many Americans from the anti-war movement. By 1969 millions of Americans disliked the War in Vietnam and hated the anti-war movement. It is very difficult to change people's minds. You cannot do it by making them angry.

Actually I know the guy that Abbie stole his material from. Ben Morea and the Black Mask Manifesto.

Ever hear of "Up Against The Wall Motherfuckers?"
