I can think of many more subjects, so we might add another poll or two later.

Note these are broad topics, most of which will contain more than one course and instructor.

Here's some more to consider for the next poll:
1. Using the Internet - Everything from getting online, keeping your info secure to being a webmaster.

2. Relationships - Getting the most out of yours.

3. Do-It-Yourself - All sorts of practical info and tips.

4. Human Sexuality - Everything from contraception to sexual identity.

Add more! :)

Well I am stuck on an Island so I would enjoy learning a bit of the culture in other lands. Cheers! That's a good idea! I'm a big believer in learning about other cultures, as that helps put one's own culture into much clearer perspective, and leads to more tolerance and understanding across borders. :)

Perhaps Cultural Anthropology, or some kind of more specific culture classes, like Comparative Youth culture, focused on an interesting segment.

Unfortunately, with Globalization, cultures are looking more the same every day!

So we must study, understand and protect these cultural differences to ensure a diversity to humanity before its too late!

Right now, everything you've mentioned seems interesting. Although maybe I'll have to narrow down my choices a little, but that can come later. How about Religion and Spirituality? But it should be an opportunity to discuss our different religions and spiritual paths instead of focusing on one religion (this is usually the case for the private schools in the Philippines, which require even non-christians to learn about Roman Catholicism).

But we want courses more defined than just Religion & Spirituality. Unless we have an expert in numerous religions to lead it, it would be no diff than the Philosophy and Religion forum.

I like the topics mentioned soo far,,,

What too would make a interesting class or project is a media class or media project,,,since the news that is reported to us is censored or not reported at all,,,for us to have a project when a event is going on,,to announce it,,,to find volunteers/students from that area to be at that event,, take pictures,, and too tell it like it actually is.

ohh yah and what about a history class, the history of the hippy :)

I'd enjoy teaching sewing and crafting. I can teach basic sewing techniques with detailed pictures and instruction and give out simple projects. I could also teach some knitting/crocheting and jewelry making.
My experience:
Design - entire life basically
Sewing - 11 years
Knitting - 5 years
Crochet - 1 year
Jewelry/beading - a few years

Let me know if I can be of any help

I also know some stuff about Poi/fire dancing. This would be hard to teach over the net but if there was interest I would try! I could take pics and video of basic moves or something.
I totally dig this one.

Teach people how to become news reporters, how to post their work online, survey the best places to get your news noticed, media ethics (like they teach that ANYWHERE, anymore!), etc.

I was also thinking of a course on blogging and perhaps another on working with photos/images/videos.

I suppose I could teach the History of the Hippy (since I wrote a book about it!). ;)

Someone could do a vegan cooking class. Veganism can be quite complicated to newbs and there are a lot of not-so-obvious ingredients that people don't know how to look out for, etc. They could post recipes and such! I would take that class for sure!

alternative, as in non-combustion-based, tecnologies are really the key to humanity having a future. that and understanding that love means caring more about the kind of world we all have to live in then what anyone thinks of us individually as a person.

so really the how to's of creating and exploring, are really the core basis of any useful and neccessary education. along with the real personal why to's and how fors of not causing suffering and harm.

the last is of course the roll of any rational society. science, tecnology and art, are the essentials of the first, and these are things that can be taught in an academic environment. one with a heavy emphasis toward lab work and hands on experience.

some understanding of symbolic math and of being able to express oneself clearly and unambiguously are at the very begginings of such education.

i would introduce such subjects, the easy, tecnologicly assisted way first, and then gradually how to deal with what is neccessary to deal with them in the absence of it, which can, and inevitably at times does, occur.

people also need to learn to understand that the default condition of the universe is not the artificial reality of symbolic value, but our interdependence with the web of life and nature's cycles of renewal. an understanding of how nature works, seeing past the messiness of lunch, and understanding that even it to is a means of coexistence, cooperation, and mutual survival on a larger scale, can be illustrative of a broader range of functionality and understanding then even the infinite intricacies of nature itself.

I have already offered my services to teaching:

Basic Iridology class 'Reading The Eyes', (Locating Physical/Emotional Weaknesses in the Body)

Aromatherapy class, which I'm sure there are a few Aromatherapist here that would love to teach also, ( Spiritual/Emotional Healing)

Herbal Healing would be a helpful course to learn.. we will be needing alternitive medicine to nurish us till the crops come in :), I know there is interest there and we have a lot of folks that are knowledge-able in Herbs that could help teach. ( Nutritional Attributes and Application)

Reflexology is good for everyone even pets, as we age we need a little rubbins to stemulate the body and help control pain, easy to do, easy to learn n teach. ( General Wellbeing)

It could be set up in classes(threads) in, let's say 'Alternitive Healing Methods' as a complete course in healing the body, mind and spirit. The Basics would only take a few weeks to complete in each course, only hitting the High spots to start with and moving into a more intence study as interest dictates.

I would also like to help in Living Off The Land classes, we live off the land , supplimenting our fixed income and have been farming 25 years, my hubby Lynn has farmed all his life, coming from generations of farming ppl.. I could help with a canning class too as I have been canning 25 also.. Preserving our food stuffs we raise. Dehydrating (making jerky, dried fruits and veggies, herbs and flowers).

I would like to Learn about Cheap Alternitive Power.. Solar Energy, Wind Mills to pull water up to drink and use as eletricity. I have been trying to convince my hub to get the well redug and put in a wind mill and to get solar panals, he keeps trying to convince me we can't afford it. So I would like to see some classes on Cheap Alternitive Power.

I like the ones that have been mentioned already too :)

Bright Blessings

Psychology would be a BIG one on my list. The development of the human mind is astounding to say the least. The different effects that different chemicals have on the brain, child development, mental disorders, etc. We all use our brain's, we use them 24/7, I think it's time to learn about them http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Also a musical class would be very nice. There are so many people on here that play soo many different instruments. I myself play Guitar (7 yrs) Bass (3 yrs) Percussion (5 yrs) and Keyboard/Piano (5 yrs also). Music is such a HUGE part of my life and would be great to be able to teach others.

Also, we can feature instruments from different cultures like the didgeridoo of the Aborigines, the sitar and tabla (India), the kulintang (Mindanao, Philippines), etc.

Speaking of Copyrights...

Since the Free School is an educational project, we are FREE to use COPYRIGHTED materials here. It's still a good idea to give credit to the original author of the work. But you needn't worry about getting in trouble for using something copyrighted.

Just so long as you don't profit from it, and use it as part of an educational project.

Enjoy your freedoms while they still last!

I was going through this and I got some of my own ideas...

I like the cosmetic making idea...understanding ways to mix herbs and stuff to create your own skin/personal care is awesome!

I like the photography idea! I'm only good at taking pictures of the backs of peoples heads!

I was thinking (got the idea from usfcat when she mentioned crafts) maybe creating a hip business? how to start your own hip business with the stuff you make?

I like the psych ideas...maybe different areas of psych that people know a lot about...like metaphysics and the subconscious of ones mind? I have psychology for dummies and I'd love to contribute!

Reading the aura? I have a few books on it, but I'd love to learn more!

Paranormal? Maybe get Ghost Lyric in here and see what she can teach us!

And I like the art idea-maybe offer a basic drawing/painting class? I'm terrible at it and I'd love to learn more!

And just to those who mentioned it-I want to start a creative writing class...I've taught a few before and I'd love to teach it in here!

Hi,

I have been using a computer for over 8 years. I have done programming. I have played video games. I have used office. I have built multiple computers from the case up.

I would be willing to teach a how-to-assemble your own $3000 computer for $1200 or less, type of class.

As well as requests when it comes to certain software, but those would have to be specific requests and more than 10 or 15 people I'd say.

Let me know,

Do you see the Princess Mononoke (picture, monogram) er whatever it is.
I'd like to learn how to do that.
I would also like to learn how to make animated drawings for my Grandchildren.
And the buildings....I'm thinking of adding a back porch. I'd like to learn how to draw those buildings in 3-d with actual dimensions.
I probably should try something simple first. To see if I'm not too far beyond my concentration span.
