all comments welcome, harsh comments too. I'm always looking for growth and I want to know what struck you here, what you are thinking it's about as you read it, what doesn't sound right to you even if you can't put your finger on it... etc...

Matter

Desire
seems fruitless, the throw of a die,

you give up
you look back for memories
to live on

a poem speaks
saying,
look to the walls
to the curtains
to the wood floors, the carpet
to the window panes,

see how they do their job?
are you not also matter?
can’t you just be?

why does desire ache
and stir turmoil to your quiet?
can’t you hold just another day,
and another,
and another?

look at the girl

the work of art
on dining room wall
boxed in wood

held tightly in the arms of canvas
loved by the tips of a paintbrush
each strand of hair tenderly swirled
lips painstakingly pondered
unaware
of what holds her there

you hold too,
you matter.

Was a little confusing at first (though I'm sure it's meant to be) but came together very nicely as you went on, very well done. My thoughts-we can't just "be" because we have a human mind, ego, and heart. Excellent thought flow.

thanks for your feedback, it's good to get some reaction to it. There's a hint of a spiritual message at the end, not something I tend to include in my writing but for some reason it popped on this one. but yes, we matter, we have a mind, ego and heart and because of that we have desires (that are not always met) but we continue forward.... you matter.

Attraction holds things together;
desire manifests change.

Can one hold something new,
like the present,
without releasing what has been?

I have been reading some of his books again lately. I have really fond memories of Swananoa. I plan on bringing Trekker there someday. I recently joined a Philosophy forum that is set up like the HipForums and there is a whole section dedicated to Russell.
love to all
