A lot of people were in all kinds of religions... I'm not sure about wicca specificially, but especially eastern religions....

Not sure about Wicca. Buddist and many other eastern religions also Jesus freaks. (Yes, that is what they called themselves) were very popular.

I'm sure it was a mix or religions but Christianity seemed to be ever present. Jesus even looks like a hippie, at least in all his representations that I've seen.
but then theres always shanmonster who would disagree

Ditto :)

I love Jesus freak, so neat and specific.
Jesus is the only aspect of Christianity I buy into.

I think that it was just the break from the 'traditional catholic' way of doing things that became interesting to hippies and beatniks and such...

A part of the song 'Hair' from the musical 'Hair' comes to mind:

"They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?"

A lot of the lyrics in that musical refer to Jesus or God in general.. for example these lines (from 'Manchester England'):

"Manchester England England
Across the Atlantic Sea
And I'm a genius genius
I believe in God
And I believe that God
Believes in Claude"

one of the earliest "hippie" neo-pagan movements (america, early 60s)
(as opposed to gardnerian witches & such folk out of england)
