Yesterday, the news reported that Pope Benedict XVI declared the Catholic Church the "only true church".

AP - Lorenzago Di Cadore, Italy

"Pope Benedict XVI has reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tesday that says other Christian communities either are defective or not true churches and that Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation."

what do you think of that??? I think it's ridiculous.......

Yea, absolutley rediculous.
Amazing how people on this Earth even consider
such dividing principles worth but a moments thought.

Now,
as you people may know, I think all the churces are pretty much not true and just a way to make a big load of money,
but seeing it from another point of view,
I do think the pope is very arrogant by saying this, and that a man in his position should not say stuff like that.

He should be open to all kinds of christianity in my humble opinion,
and if he isnt, then he still should not judge the others,
I think that's going straight in the wrong direction of what defines a Christian.

From a theological standpoint though he is correct. The Catholic churches are the only churches in full communion with the See of Rome and therefore the only True church. The Orthodox churches, according to catholic eccumenical movements need to regognize the Patriarch of romes authority while the prodestant churches are more "defective" and it would take more to "make them right".

However, the catholic church (in vatican 2) never says that if you aren't catholic you are for sure going to hell.

On a side note: I wonder where that quote came from because it mentions the Roman Catholic authority while only the Pope has the authority over all of the churches because the Eastern churches are autonomously governed
