I thought I should make a thread about this in my own place.:)
We're having another go at an Hip Forums West Coast Gathering. It's on July 27th through the 29th and everyone is welcome. Here's a link to one of the threads about it.

Basically it's at Black Canyon Campground on Hwy 58, 6 miles west of Oakridge in Oregon. This is within close distance to I-5.
Our specific plans are that we are going to take the boy to the airport (Seatac) to spend some time with his real mom in Iowa at noon on Thursday the 26th. From there we are heading straight to Oregon. So we should be there late Thursday night and will get a site or two through Sunday depending on how many people seem to be coming. Friday afternoon we will be taking a day trip to do some free mining in southern Oregon.
I am going to post a notice on the board at the entrance to the campground with HIPFORUMS on it and the campsite number(s) we are taking.
I hope lots of people try to come, camping is always so much fun!

Yes, there are 4 public bathrooms. I can't remember if they had showers or not.

Well, it was better than last year! Though I would call it a nice camping outing rather than a gathering - it was small and low keyed, but still alot of fun. I had the pleasure of meeting Newo, a very nice and generous person. There were 5 of us total. I thought the campground was excellent, well at least for this year. Newo has justified concerns about the parking if more than 3 additional groups showed up and, well, there's a train which can bother some. It was cool where we camped even though the weather was warm. We camped by the Williamette river and there was nice cooling breeze off of it and the most awesome view of the water. No rain. Lots of good food - too much really, good company, lots of kynd bud to share, nice big fires. It was all good! BTW, Newo brought the best kinetic water and smoke sculpturehttp://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/icons/newicons/icon16.gif that he made, it rocked! I dangled my feet in the Williamette, I'm super glad there's no pictures of me scrambling down to it and back up! Newo took pictures (my camera is in for repair), but he's not going to be back until next week. He took the rest of the week as a vacation and is continueing on camping in Oregon.
Next year Jim and I plan to scout out some place that he knows in the Federation Forest in southern WA to get the event out public campgrounds. But for this year it served us well.
BUT I couldn't make it to the sunstone mine :(. I never really researched where it was, I knew it was in southern Oregon and I was going to camp in mid OR, so I ASSumed that it would be about a two hour drive. I was mistaken, when I mapped it out on MSN directions, it was a 5 hour drive BEFORE the 25 miles of dirt road. We didn't get to the campground until 2:00 AM Thursday night (Friday morning). We would have left in an hour to make it there in time for the 9:00 opening, and wouldn't be back until the wee hours again. It just wasn't feasible. We aren't giving up though - it just has to be a trip only for that.

sorry i didn't ask you about this on the phone, I'm glad you have a good time, how feasible would it be for us to go to the mine when i come, if it would be a days journy there and back, we could perhaps put aside a day?

It would be too far. From our house we are talking about about an 11 hour drive one way.
But, I do know of an excellent rock and gem shop here that just might have some so we will have to do some shopping there.
