I'm happy to annouce that we will finally be starting member groups on the Hip Forums. The first two groups going up are the UK group and the Gay group (including LGBT).
The groups revolve around the new Group Page which focuses attention upon contributions by members of the group itself. You'll be able to do more than make forum posts. You can add stories, reviews, links and more. There are new sections for each type of contribution so it will be far easier to find and keep track of such items. They won't get lost and forgotten in the forums.
In addition each group will have its own calendar of events, photo gallery and forum (if there is one already, it will become the official group forum).
Group members are encouraged to make their group page their new homepage for the forums, as it will also display your last gallery images and your most recent postings.
Within the next few days the first two group pages will come online and you can see what I'm talking about.
In the meantime, you can think about what kind of a group you'd like to start or join. We're going to start a few more based upon the obvious interests of our members. But we will allow site supporters to start their own groups too. You will need at least five other active members ready to join too.
So if you'd like to start a group, first line up the people, then PM me with the group title and list of startup members who've said they want to join.
Each group can decide who will lead it, and what the basis of membership will be. So you can leave your group open, where anyone can join with just a quick click. Or you can require approval.
At this point all groups will be visible to the public. But you can restrict who can post material into the group via membership. If you have a public forum as the group forum, it will still be available to the public for posting, likewise the group gallery. But both can be private if desired.
It's been a lot of work to get this off the ground, and I hope you'll see more community interaction and cohesion as a result.
Enjoy! :)
