Percs, lortab, vicodin...Whatever. Got chronic back pain..Tolerance got too high.
I quit a week ago, seven days. Haven't had even one pill since.

How long do you think it'll take for my tolerance to lower back down to where one 10/whatever mg acetaminophen does it again?

I also do actually need them for pain.

Don't know if this'll help...I'm 5'6" & anywhere from 135 -145 pounds. (I fluctuate) I was only up to four 10's at a time when I stopped.

Stay off the opiates at least 2 weeks, longer if possible, like a couple of months, it takes a while for the tolerance to go down. For the pain I'd take Ibuprofen:caffeine 200:18 ratio up to a gram of ibuprofen 3 times a day. I'd also add some blue lotus to the mix since there is theoretical evidence that it might help upregulate the receptors or at least have an analgesic effect in the lumbar vertebrae area.

if the back pain is bad enough, i'm pretty sure you can get prescribed a painkiller (most likely hydrocodone), thats what my aunt did about her back pain. i would stop taking them for a high for a month, then you should have a normal tolerance again, but avoid taking more than needed often to keep that tolerance down. maybe find something else that'll do the trick for ya, some weed perhaps?

I just went to a doc last week. They charged me $115.00 for an office visit and only gave me 10 flexiril, no refills.

When I'm stuck in pain I get nothing done. So, the extra boost helps me get all my cleaning done, gets me organized...Pain really gets in the way of any enjoyment, so relief is a beautiful thing.

Today my neck/right shoulder want to lock up.
I have never found any help for this. I have been to loads of doctors over the years. This has been going on since kindergarten when my neck locked up for a week..Never any diagnosis.
Still, I'm actually better off than many people I know of.
I wish I liked pain, would make life soooo much easier.

Here's something anyone who actually believes that you can get anything more than temporary help for chronic pain in America today needs to take a look at.
I have a very close friend that has vertebrae fused together in her neck and back from osteoarthritis who still has to supplement her meds with street scores just to make life livable.

No Relief in Sight
Torture, despair, agony, and death are the symptoms of "opiophobia," a well-documented medical syndrome fed by fear, superstition, and the war on drugs. Doctors suffer the syndrome. Patients suffer the consequences.

....More-

Russell Portenoy, director of analgesic studies at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, told the Times, "The undertreatment of pain in hospitals is absolutely medieval....The problem persists because physicians share the widespread social attitudes that these drugs are unacceptable." He added that "many physicians fear sanctions against themselves if they prescribe the drugs more liberally." The article cited a recent survey in which 203 out of 353 patients at a Chicago hospital said they had experienced "unbearable" pain during their stay. More than half were in pain at the time of the survey, and 8 percent called the pain "excruciating" or "horrible." Most of the patients said nurses had not even asked them about their pain. The same study found that nurses were dispensing, on average, just one-fourth the amount of painkiller authorized by physicians.

I'm giving up working with the elderly, & pursuing nursing over this. My body can't take it, & I don't want to be a guilt ridden nurse because I desire relief. Fuck that.

I now need to find a job that does not require much physical activity.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but some of you may benefit from the knowledge in the long run. I wish I knew then what I know now.
