View Full Version : Australia next the UK Forums.
Is this a plausible idea? I just spotted a thread in Australia forums, which currently mentions the fact Australia are rock bottom of the hip forums. Anyway to cut a long story short, we both share the same head of state, so why not we have australia and a Uk forum . Or two forums side by side and put America down the bottom or some place appropriate?

I don't think we should have a joint forum (we're too proud for that!), but putting theirs beside ours isn't a bad idea. Although, a lot of those Aussies just like slagging us Brits off.

I just spotted a thread in Australia forums, which currently mentions the fact Australia are rock bottom of the hip forums.I tend to think of it less as them being right at the bottom of the forum list, and more that they're just "down under".
Does anyone remember the original forum layout, with the huge table full of forum links?

Maybe somebody could delete the ''Hip business directory'' - Move the ''cool' section and then move the aussies to a position either above below us or maybe just for those who think ''America down the bottom or some place appropriate'' just below us.

The reason why the UK are at the top of the list is because we probably have the strongest community on the forum. It has nothing to do with the fact that we're British.

I think the Americans get to blow off steam and ''chat'' in other sections of the forum - places where ''we'' rarely go or are ''swamped''.
The UK forum is less about what it is like to live there and more about - well everything else.
Hence the popularity of this ''community''.

Australia like to slag britain off because we used this continent to send convicts. So naturally there is going to be some hard feelings. I think the feelings would be the same if they sent convicts over to Britain.
The UK and Australia are connected down to the last drop in history. They have a prime minister and a head of state. If they go republic this would then cut that link forever.
Why do people think Australia have pretty much the same place names as us?

Until Australia start treating their native citizens...THE ABORIGINALS, fairly...they don't get my vote. These are my ancestors FFS!
Yeh I have heard that Australians treat the aboriginals really badly. It is unacceptable and shocking. Australians should hang their heads in shame but aside from that, Britain and Australia have this unspoken bond. They are like our Soul mate.

We used to be down the bottom of the list with everyone else. But we're up here because we're not just a regional forum. We're not just the second largest national grouping on the forums, we're the largest, and perhaps only, real community here....
Maybe if we could merge with Australia. Have a hybrid forum of two closely related/linked nations with the same head of state and connections with history that have created a close bond with Australia. To see how close we are with Australia, is to see what side of the road we drive on.Just an idea.Australia and the Uk would still have independence from australian forum, but we would have a direct access link with Australia and going from one to another would be as simple as clicking on Uk random.

At last somebody recognises that Australia are not bad people. Well not all aussies anyway. Having a direct link to Australia through the uk forums I believe isn't such an insane idea. The votes speak for themselves that is why I started a poll in the first place. Maybe we could have a seven day trial period. If it don't work out, then we can officially denounce, crush or even liquify my innocent suggestion:)

If I'm reading it the right way, in that there'd be a link to access the Australia forum through the UK forum, wouldn't that cause as much offense as the current issue has?
We may as well start a system where nobody is banned from Hipforums for offences in the UK forum, but instead they're banned from posting in the UK forum and can only post in the Australia forum.
Actually, holy crap, that's an awesome idea.

Thankyou for everyone who has taken part in the poll. Although the poll continues on, It is interesting to see people's opinions. I must stress that one should not crush a person's idea or suggestion just because we disagree. But more that we should nurture those with an idea that may actually turn out to be a good suggestion....if given the chance. Sure many might think, Australia belong down at the bottom as they are "Down Under". I was thinking that because our history is so interwoven, it might be an idea to merge or atleast create some direct link. Some Aussie was asking why UK and US got star treatment. I automatically disputed this claim but I decided that maybe a solution could be sought to make Australia more available. This idea may not be one of the best. But we all have to start somewhere. Even famous artists started out with crazy ideas. Given the chance, it can evolve into something quite constructive.

It belongs there because they're down under? That was me wasn't it? You realise I was joking, right?
Hey, UK and US history is fairly close too. Why don't we merge those two forums together? And the UK held Hong Kong for a hundred years, which is now part of China, so let's chuck them together too. Not to mention that England was ruled by a French leader after 1066, so let's link France and the UK forums.
Ooo, there are young hippies living in the UK. Let's put that foru...oh wait, that was renamed The Whiners? Well, there are lots of whiners in the UK so it still works. Not to mention that we're now part of the European Union...the Europe forum can come stay for a while too.
Anyone who reads this, please pretend that I repeated the above formula for every single forum on Hipforums. I'm too fucking lazy to do it by hand.

We get 'star treatment' because we're a community. Linking the UK to the Australia forum is not a good suggestion, however. It's a pointless, confusing and illogical move. If you want to suggest instead that Australia belongs under the Communities category, not as a sub-forum to the UK, then that idea would make a lot more sense, in which case I'd recommend you make a post in the Suggestions forum or PM Skip. That's perfectly do-able, though personally I'd say that the Australian forum is not active enough to constitute a community anyway....

Sorry Hippo, but LA Matthews is kind of right. There's this picture people have of Liverpool as the birthplace of the Beatles that really doesn't fit the place. Want to know more? There was an extra verse in Penny Lane that the Beatles took out because it was too close to the awful truth...
On Penny Lane there is a copper but he won't go far
'til a biker gang are running at him
And the local lads they all join in
Kicking his teeth in
And on the corner there's an old lass with her handbag nicked
Some 12 year old chav snatched it and ran
The country's going down the pan
I blame the immigran...ts
