well...i thought id let you all know what exciting thing happened to me this evening. i took refuge. this is a concept in buddhism which i guess is a bit like a confirmation or something, its me formally becoming a buddhist. i did this under the instruction of Ringu Tulku Rinpoche who i also took a vow under last year-the bodhissatva vow. although you are meant to have taken refuge first to be able to take this vow he said it was alright and it would come into action when i took refuge.
so tonight i killed two birds with one stone or so to speak. it was amazing. basically myself and 3 others sat and recited the refuge prayer together with people who had taken refuge before and were there for support for us.then we each went up to Rinpoche and made him an offering of a Kata-silk scarf with prayer in it- and he took some of our hair(yup i now have half a dread lock!!) and gave us a blessing thread and our new names. so....im uma. i translates as 'middle way'....so yeah...!:)
meant so much to finally take refuge also was very symbolic as the last time sissors touched my hair it was about 4 years ago before i had a shaved head...*grins..*
just wanted to share as i feel all calm and serene and madly at peace.
