i just bought one for my friend today for a present. but usually you can find them cheaper at certain festivals with vendors or you could try a glass blowers place and maybe he or she could hook ya up.
also try craft stores

You could try etsy. There has to be some glass beads there.
I go to Gem Fairs or shows, you have to pay to get in, but the deals are great. I don't know if they have them in your area, but you could keep an eye out for one.

i live in asheville, nc. i could ask some people i know at their hipster shops. i just don't wanna pay $25 or more for one. i am wearing a necklace that i swapped with her. the bead is blue with a little fishy in it. i call him herman ^_^

I blow glass, and specialize in making beads, pendants, marbles and small sculpture. :) Depending on the time and thought the artist puts into it, some beads are really WORTH $20 or more. One of the items I enjoy making is goddess pieces, which are concentrations I do to make a piece fit with a particular goddess and the lore that surrounds her. They take me a long time to make, and a long time to conceptualize, and some of them I wouldn't sell for less than $100.
BUT I can still understand where you're coming from! Probably at least half of what I do is pieces that sell for $10-20 a piece. You can check out some of my work in my gallery, and even more on my website (hummblebee.com). Lately I've also been doing small-scale wholesale orders online, for small-business mamas who make jewelry, people buying gifts all at once, etc. What I do for that is ask the budget of the person ordering (must be over $100), and put together a range of pieces for the price. You get a much better and easier deal than going my "official" wholesale route, and hopefully I'll get a few more orders.
*warning, shameless begging to follow* My van broke down the other day and getting it to work just ate ALL of our grocery and bill money for the next 3 weeks. :( So if you are seriously interested in getting some glass (direct from the artist!) I could definitely use some business right bout now. :& I hate to be pathetic like this, but I guess that's the price you pay for living off your art.
Oh yeah, I'm on my way out to my studio in a minute here and will spend the rest of my day there... but I'm always happy to do custom pieces as well! :D

Groovy! That would be great! Any extra bit definitely helps... We're taking a trip out to Oregon in June, and my wonderful partner just asked me to marry him on the beach when we're there!
