Okay, imagine this.
The earth's living soul exists as the biosphere, and every nonliving (nonliving by conventional definitions of what life is) force on earth that contributes to the sustaining of the biosphere, are it's body. All geothermal activity, the weather (itself being the product of earth's reaction with the solar system around it, the sun, the moon and beyond), and other "life processes" of the planet are the one ultimate lifeform. We're all tiny, tiny things, fractions of cells, of the earth itself. We are so powerful though, in that unlike the other subcells of the planet, (both smaller and larger of scale) we appear to possess the power to observe and potentially change (based on conscious decisions we make) the condition of the universe itself. We have the ability to not only alter our own inertia, but to devastate the landscape, destroy entire landmarks and forests, or make a conscious effort to save the last remaining members of a declining species while other animals would hunt them into extinction.
This is immense power, godly power! Each of us really does have the power of a god! You could spend a lifetime just trying to study and understand the potential we have. Limitless.
One thing I can't understand is how power has taken on a negative connotation. For so many, power = bad. "Absolute power corrupts absolutlely"? I don't believe so. I don't believe Ghandi was corrupt, and he had tremendous power.
Power and human weakness, when it is present in the mix, result in negativity, but power alone is above that. This thing we call power transcends the subject of morality!!! Power is ultimately the ability to change the universe, to alter the state of other existing things, as well as yourself.
If power is considered evil to someone, then I would think just getting out of bed is an intrinsically evil act for that person if they believe that theory. But I don't buy into that! I don't think I'm commiting evil by merely existing (as even existing is displaying power). Power does not equate evil, nor does it have to corrupt. Power is far beyond the scope of the structure of such things. Too big to be seen by that puny lense and mindset. Power is needed to bring upon reform, whether it be power over oneself to deal with and change a person's weaknesses (racism, homophobia, greed), or more universal change like apologizing to your friend for hurting their feelings. To do even that requires so much power as compared to say what a rock has!!! A rock only has the power to sit where I put it and give off vibrations at me. Though, perhaps even that is a considerable power!
But the most important thing about this all is that I want to convey the importance of understanding our position in the universe. We are tiny compared to our galaxy but let's focus on caring for this earth, the largest thing we can hope to understand all the properties of. Since it follows the same rules as the inner blueprints of our DNA, from what we can tell, all of us living things, even bacteria, we have a DEEP connection to each other.
We living things have the ability to understand how united and alike we are to have this ability to consciously effect the decisions of other things. Even an insect makes decisions upon encountering another individual as to how to reaction (run! or fight!). We share so much with even insects!
I love living things so much! We humans have to use our power to keep this earth alive. Before this point, we'd never had the potential to fuck things up so badly. With our level of technology, we currently have the ability to completely destroy almost all the life on the planet. Everything hangs in the balance of human minds now. I don't want to imagine the ramifications of that!
Here's a visual: try to imagine an earth that, when viewed from space, is colored in colors other than blue and green. What kind of environment remains for the cockroaches and microbes, the last dying embers of the biosphere, who live on it?
Keep the planet alive, use your POWER!
