Can't say I really delve into any short stories anymore. Too busy buried in novels. ;)

I went on about James Joyce in another thread... "Dubliners" is a great collection of short stories:)

Another favourite of mine is "Pixel Juice" by Jeff Noon. It's his collection of short stories, very weird and beautifull written.

I don't really read too many short stories either, but I do have some by Will Self (Grey Area, Tough Tough Toys For Tough Tough Boys, Dr Mukti & Other Tales Of Woe), some of whic I've read several times (usually so I can try to understand them....!)

I've read all the Sherlock Holmes stories many times; the SF genre has also produced many fine short story writes such as Asimov, Bradbury and or course, Philip K Dick. I discovered O Henry's stories a few years ago and used to take them with me on my travels.
Lately, if I want a quick read I've sometimes turned to comics, particularly Alan Moore (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Promethea etc) and the various incarnations of Dr Strange.

It seems you read only English and American authors... Or maybe on the U.K.forum we are supposed to talk only about English literature?
Anyway, I like Russian short stories - by Pushkin, Ivan Bunin, Turgieniev and Chekhov.
As for the American literature, I absolutely love Flannery O'Connor and her short stories 'A good man is hard to find'!
