Through A Window

Through the slender pane of glass

We watched the robins form their nests

Of scattered twigs and fallen leaves

Within the fruitless apple trees

We watched the ivy intertwine

An emerald quilt upon the soil

It climbed atop the wooden fence

And hung above the concrete slabs

We watched a group of flowers grow

Between the bricks, beside the creek

Attracting lonesome butterflies

To float between their brittle stems

Yet now she rests below such sights

My dearest wife, deprived of life

Her bones amongst the unseen roots

Her name engraved upon her tomb

And curtains hang before the frame

To shroud the ever-changing scene

Preserve the faintest memories

Of flowers, ivy, apple trees.
