Did you ever try playing Talisman, kind of DnD boardgame.

Ahhhh Talisman is fantastic. You can still get it on Ebay, but some of the sets are worth hundreds!

you mean "dozzens n dozzens" of "drunk n dissorderly" "demons n demmigods"?

i do like the idea of roll playing with nothing more then immaginations, a few aggreed upon charts and tables and rules, and a handful or two of less then common regular geometric solids with numbered sides used as a randomization mechanism.

dnd itself was a bit creakey for my taste even when it was au currant. tunnels and trolls was better for within the limitations of it, and to go beyond them other systems far better have been developed since.

but the idea of roll the dice as opposed to other forms of simulation and or roll playing is still cool and at least the potential of it, i still find inspiring.

Heheh...My friend just got torn to shreds by a CryoHydra yesterday. Nasty. Not even enough of him for a rez, even if we could get to the bits. LOL

We've actually been doing fairly well on the campaign despite this nasty death. Playing in GreyHawk. Finally hit lvl 7.

And Talisman freakn' rocks! Great board game made by Games Workshop

I'm a big DnD fan too. We use to play weekly, but everyone got busy and scheduals didn't coenside, people moved away, etc. Now we havn't played a game for over a year. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to play, then we can start a family DnD night. We use to play so regularly for so many years that I've retired three characters that were started at first level and retired at 20th or beyond (thanks to the epic level handbook).

Ive always really wanted to learn. I found one group that said they'd teach me, but the DM was a flake and it fell through. :( Maybe someday, in the meantime i have my WoW.

I played once or twice, but none of us were very experienced, and we never really got into it. I wish I could learn more.

Nada, buy a player's handbook for twenty bucks at a game store. or a DMGuide if you're so bold. monster manual's also good if you spring for the DMG

My DM is my wicked wizardous mate. Him and his girlfriend are so into DnD that everything flows really well and we all get into it. They even go to live RP festivals etc.

i have a hard time really getting into it... i prefer to focus on the mechanics of combat, char. advancement, etc. It's just a little outside my comfort zone to do too much acting...

Shame, you're not getting the full benefits of DnD...

Did anyone here know that if you go to the wizards of the coast site that they have a whole bunch of free adventures for all levels of characters? This thread has inspired me to download and print off a few adventures and try to put my group back together (or at least whats left of it).

My parents got my brother and I into it early, and I spread it to some friends and we played fairly regularly. That group fell apart when our DM left, but it's still occasionally a family activity.
Damn, I want to play again now, too.

no never played dungeons and dragons or talisman......I was really into games workshop Warhammer 40,000 and Blood Bowl stuff at one point though...I still have a shit load of minatures and armies in the loft that i'm not sure what to do with...

I've been looking to sell it all on ebay, but then some of them are painted really well and look pretty damn good, and I think of all the time that went into painting them and the amount of money I spent on them and to be honest I don't feel comfortable parting with them!

I use to be into Warhammer 40,000 too. I still am kind of, but the only people I know who play are the dorks at the game shop and they are way to into it. The dork factor is too high for me. All the guys that play there are in their thirties, still live at home with their parents, and have never known the touch of a woman. It's sad really. They spend almost all of their waking lives wrapped up in the game. As soon as you set up to play a game there all of them will croud around the table and start telling you what you should do, arguing rules with you and each other, and generaly being a pain in the ass to anyone who is actualy involved in the game.

lol well i'd rather have a game of blood bowl than a game of trivial pursuit or monopoly...put it that way

The rules are more complex, immeasurably better thought out but all the buzz words were there. We were playing a system that didn't involve dice with a group of nerds. I'm not going back.
