Waking up in my truck parked in the Rest Area on I-95 just north of D.C., I wondered momentarily where I was. I had traveled to southern VA this Friday to pick up the Sculpt I had asked a friend to carve for me two years ago. A wonderful Spirit Totem, that depicts the Spirit Journey I had taken and includes my animal and plant totems as well, was now going home with me.

Finding myself nodding off on the Washington Beltway at 4-something in the morning after already driving for 4 hours, I decided to pull into the rest area and sleep for a few minutes. Perhaps I should have stayed overnight with my friend and traveled at first light as planned. But, I got antsy and felt I had to come home.

So, after walking Cody on the grass and taking a pitstop myself, we were back on the road again. I only had an hour and a half left to drive, and I felt rested enough to make it. As we turned off of I-70 onto MD RT 97, we were greeted by the most spectacular Sunrise I have seen in a great while.

It was 6:15 AM when I pulled my truck in front of the garage, got out and fed the horses and goats. As I was walking down into the pasture with feed buckets in my hand and a half a bale of hay in my other arm, I heard "Hey Girlfriend! Welcome Home!" from the other side of the road. Ken was surprised and delighted to see me walking across the drive as he was wiping the sleep from his eyes and making coffee. I shouted back to him, "Morning Love... I'll be right over."... And so went the rest of the weekend, mellow and kicked back.

While I was gone, Kenny had rented the guest house to a young couple with three small children. We had shown the house to a woman whose boyfriend is a DEA Agent !!! No Lie. Let me tell you, I have had my Meteorite in my hand, and was wishing and telling him with Great mental force that he truly didn't want to rent the house. Must've worked, the girlfriend called to tell me that he couldn't move there cause; "there Wasn't any "COM" (no cell phone service in the valley)... and he was out of his "G" car milage range by 7 miles. PHEW !!! That was a really close call. Not that I'm doing anything that would warrent investigation, but those guys are so prying and have absolutely No respect for personal space.

It was such a pleasure to hear the kids laughing and screeching with delight over there yesterday. The house needs Life. It certainly has it again.

But this thread is about my spirit totem, so...

The Spirit Journey I had taken led me to an ancient, horseshoe shaped mountain range. In the distance, as I hoovered above the mountains in spirit form, I could see many people milling about, in what I thought to be a free-for-all. Instantly moving closer, in spirit, to them... I found that a large tribe of ancient people, who were dressed in finely tailored skin clothing, were being massacred by sword-weilding men riding small, agile horses.

There was a Shamaness standing off to the side with arms upraised, screaming and crying. As I watched from above, a horseman beheaded her from behind. She died, and her spirit rose as three birds, but not birds...

Her Spirit rose as three birds, but not birds.

She saw me and called me by name. She screamed at me that I was to remember what I saw there. To remember my heritage... and then she took my hand and instantly we were both back home, sitting on the back porch... staring into the candle flame...

And She Took My Hand

She stayed with me for quite some time, and I worried about getting her home ... planning on taking a physical trip to Siberia to return her there. Then my life took a different direction, and I figured that if she got here with me without a Air Plane... she wouldn't need one to get to where she truly belonged. So I released her from my side after she had taught me what I needed to learn.

Another representation, which I hadn't told Willie about, was the fact that Ken and I have spent four lifetimes together...

I am speechless about this man's work. I think that I have to live with this fine, work of art for a few more days before I can find those words to tell him just How pleased I am.

I feel that Willie has worked a marvelous representation of my journey. I told him of that journey when I was down in VA talking care of my friend's house while she had knee replacement surgery two Augusts ago. The tale I told to him was very brief, he didn't take any notes.

William C. Kirschbaum has fully put his spirit and love into this work. There really are no words that can sum up my thanks and appreciation for his effort.

"Spirit Journey" is carved from a Lightning Struck Oak Tree.

Be Talking to you soon,

Sam
