Something was real today

In me

And I became a better person

I remembered the way it felt to lay on grass

And let the day just pass

Today I listened to my breath

I knew I wouldn’t always have it

Today I payed attention

To too many things to mention

But I don’t have to talk about the things I feel

To know to me they’re real

And I only have myself to fight

If I lay awake at night

I only have this minute

To know what’s in it

Something was real today

In me

I remembered many precious times

And my soul shines

Today I listened to my heart

I knew the beats were primal

Who knows the beat that’s final?

Today I learned to unlearn

and relearn

Today I let my eyes burn

But I don’t have to talk about the things I feel

To know to me they’re real

I just know I needed tissue

And your voice to help me heal

Today I knew that saving the world

Was happening right now

I knew it in my bones

I don’t have to tell you how.

My favorite part was this...
"Today I listened to my heart

I knew the beats were primal

Who knows the beat that’s final?

Today I learned to unlearn

and relearn"

Especially that gripping question. Nice touch. Somehow I thought this was going to turn out cliche but ya pulled it out into something rather enjoyable and thought provoking, I salute you on that!
A line that puzzled me though was this.. "Today I knew that saving the world, Was happening right now"
I don't really understand the relevance and what you mean by 'happening right now'. Unless you're referring to your personal world and your world being saved by somebody else.

That's my favorite part, too! And also, "But I don't have to talk about the things I feel/To know to me they're real".

I was a bit skeptical at first cuz you got off to an awkward start: "Something was real today/In me/And I became a better person..." but you pulled it off rather nicely. I'm not questioning the idea behind the first three lines, I just think you could have said it better.

It was in refrence to some people I know who understand children to their core and from their start. People who are changing the worl through the raising and all of children...from the ground up. Change in the right direction.
