View Full Version : What's your opinion on marriage?

I'm asking this because I know a lot of gays have objected to that (I respect their opinion, but still...).

For my part, I'm very thankful to live in Canada. Of course, Quebec had the civil union (like domestic partnership), but I felt it wasn't the same. We are now treated like everybody else, and I couldn't be happier!

So, what's your opinion? Would you (if available where you live) get married?

Sure.....had things been different back when I was planning my life....I would have gotten married to a female...however , being close to 50 , as I am , the world was a different place when I was younger.

Sorry to be off-topic (but it's my thread anyway), but it must have been hard for you, no?

Actually , I was verry fortunate.....I had lots of love , and some verry cool friends, one of whom I married. Gay marriage was just a dream back then , and lots of gays got into hetero marriages to cover up....fit in....or have kids , like I did, I would have done the turykey baster method had i known about it , but , it all worked out.
I never encountered the hate that some of the kids that post here did , they have my deepest respect for what they live with each day.

HELL YES!!!
My g/f and I want 2 be as 1 on paper as we are in our hearts!!
To some it may be just a piece of paper,
but to those who cant have it,
(a marriage btw man n man or a woman n a woman)
it means more then any str8 couple could ever realise. My g/f has agreed when it does become legal 2 be my wife and I hers. She wants her family 2 be able 2 share in our joyeous day as we become 1 to god and to the legal system!! As 4 you ERZEBET, you are never 2 old to start life anew or better yet marry the person you love from the very deepest part of your heart!!

I feel that we need to reccognize that as homosexuals we are not the "traditional" or society's view of a "average" couple. Because of this, I don't think we should have the title of "married" seeing as that term derives from just man and woman.

This does not mean we are lesser than heteros, it just means we are not hetero.

Of course we should be able to be together with the one we love and share all of the same rights are heterosexuals but we must realize that we ARN'T heterosexuals and therefore shouldn't be forced into the married mold with white dress, church, cake, "marriage license" stuff. A new form should be created just for homosexuals that truely is seperate but equal, NOT a civil union, something that is recognized by state and federal government as the equivilant to marriage between a man and a woman

Well, being gay I might have a bit of prejudice, but I'm totally for it. At the very least, I'm for the rights that straight couples get for being married. If my government wanted to pass a law saying I could have all the rights straight couples had, without necessarily using the word marriage to avoid riling up conservatives, I'd be totally fine with that. I can walk into my church tomorrow and ask my minister to marry me to my girlfriend, but until I can adopt a child with a woman, claim family rights with a woman, and visit a woman in the hospital, I do not think the current laws are fair.

I agree that it's unfair that even if you've lived with your partner for years s/he could be a stranger when it comes to your rights, like hospital visits, taxes etc. That goes for unmarried heterosexual couples too, though. Maybe marriage is a concept that simply doesn't work as the "one and only" legalized form of relationship.

at the moment, i don't have a gf so i dont have any one woman i would marry.

but if i find the perfect person (man or woman) i think marriage is definately an option.

one girl's piece of paper is another one's gold. :D
