What do you guys think about retelling the Oz story. With all the remakes it doesn't seem too farfetched. Maybe tell it according to the book, which I can vouch for has much more fighting and action in it. Comments? Suggestions?

I think it's very viable- but not by following the book.

"re-telling" means telling it a different way - an the film is most familiar.

No "The Wiz" crappola!!

Much as it pains me, re-makes are in.

hey tara i keep finding these interesting titbits in my travels down the yellow brick road, I wonder how many times a version of the Oz stories has been made into film, tv, play by now?

I don't no, but I think a new version with Ozzy as the Wizard is freaking awesome. (Have I ever mentioned how much I love Ozzy?) Kind of a rock-n-roll Wizard of OZ. Now to come up with the other cast members. Dorothy should be hard. A fairly innocent girl in rock?

well, as most of us here know, there wasn't just one oz story. so why not make new ones. maybe that's not quite the same topic. maybe it is.

why not a movie or movies or book or books, that someone like h. baum would write today if he were alive today? in the style and mode of the oz alternative universe as he invissioned it?

with lots of simple, even childish visual puns on common objects and experiences, and yet maybe not going quite so far into cleche' territory as he did with some of it. but not going for today's kind of totally believable realism either.

actually i think there's a lot of anime being done that does that. not most of it of course. but i've seen a few odd eppisodes here and there that have. just not enough or often enough to remember the names of any of them.

there, after all, zillions of such things being produced, and i hardly ever get to see any of them, not having either cable nor broadband.
