Before Threads there was The War Game (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0059894/) by Peter Watkins, made for the BBC in 1965 but subsequently banned from being shown on TV.

Yes, The War Game is fantastic and well worth tracking down - made for TV but deemed by the government of the day too unsettling to be shown, it did get a cinema release in the 80s and was eventually shown on the BBC 20 years after it was made...:)

Quite a few of us did get to see The War Game at special showings in the 70s or 80s. I remember one line from the film was actually referenced by Neil in the Young Ones, and they must have expected that a sizeable proportion of the audience would get it.
