For people on the journey of becoming their 'true' sex/gender, did you change your name? and how did you choose your new female/male name if you did?

one of my friends choose her new name as it was the name of someone she admired at school, some people simply choose a name that is the male/female version of their existing name.

my female name is 'Deanna' because I think its a really beautiful name but also because I really love the charater of Deanna in star trek.

And if your not transexual or transgender what do you think your name would be if you where?!

NOTE: you don't need to disclose your name unless you want to, just talk about the journey you took when you choose your name, or perhaps you feel your name choose you?

As a matter of fact it used to be something that when I was in grade school I got teased about. Little did they know.... :) I changed my formal name to a female one that has the same nick name. I like the sound of my formal nick name, it is possibly nicer than the male name that was my formal one.

My mom named me so she could call me by my nick name & I have honored that. I have quite a few electronic identities that relied on my initials being the same so my middle name has the same first letter but is not in any way otherwise similar to what I was given. I pretty much figure that I'm excommunicated from the catholic church so I don't have to consider my confirmation name, :)

I had a few options that could have worked for my first name. I knew that I didn't want all but two I came across & I played with them in my mind some as well as had friends talk with me about them & use them so I could hear them. As for my middle name I was quite undecided but I have a friend who is a writer, I brainstormed names with her. I tossed a couple of things at her & she tossed two at me. The second name she said sounded so good & her reasoning was so good for it but I tossed a couple out for discussion & quickly came back to that one. She has mostly written me or talked to me using my first initial & the name that she gave me ever since or maybe a derivation of a that name. I have called her Mom since.

My life companion came up with the name I use, back when I first came out people online were complaining because I was using my male name so I asked her thoughts on this and she quickly came up with something that would be androgynous when spoken and that I could spell in a feminine manner. I thought the name to be temporary, I didn't like it that much, but it quickly became a name used in real life when I got out among the trans community. Over the years this name of Marti accumulated a very nice history so I started using it here in my home community, in fact it is the name I get all my paychecks under. At first there was some confusion among those used to my old male name, then added confusion when I would meet new people here who then only knew me by Marti, sometimes the two groups of people would be talking about who they thought were different people then would realize it was the same person. Now things have settled down and in conversation among a group of people I will hear both names being used, my life companion uses both and will switch back and forth in the same sentence as will some close friends. Either is fine with me though Marti labels the more complete me.

I also have two other names that have come into real life use depending on where I am in the country, there is my email ID which became a name and the name my Lakota family uses. The folks at my small town post office get a chuckle out of the 4 names they see. I'll go in to pick up a package and they will look at the name and remark with a smile, "Oh, today you are ----- ".

I haven't been able to officially change my name... I'm in high school and my parents don't support it.

I've kind of been leaning towards having Victoria as my name. It's such a beautiful name.

I chose my name because it was the name of a guy I used to know when I was a kid. He was a few years older than me and was my first peer-type male role model. Also, I wanted to keep my initials, so the first name [Adam] was from the role model from when I was a kid, and I used my father's middle name [Bryan].

Well, I'm not trans but if I was I think my guy name would be Michael because it's the name of an angel and no I'm not religious I'm just me.

When I left my home some years ago, still in my teen years, after much abuse and later on soul seeking I did have my name changed from the one I was born with because I was no longer that person. I went from >>>>>><not saying sorry<>>>> to Pheobee because it meant moon and as I'm a pagan I felt very in touch with my only true mother- the goddess I believe in. :) Just though I'd give my input.

my nickname is Mickey, sort of put it around to keep myself at least gender neutral, rather than being called maria. I'm not the virgin mother of jesus. when I do change my name it will be to Michael, because I think it's a very strong and beautiful name. I might try to keep my current initials to save confusion and discomfort for my family, in that case Michael Henry. I'd like my second name to be Aaron.

I just literally translated my name from a girl name to a boy name.

I'm not trans, but I would go for Levi, Dante, or Ivan... or even Rigby... if I were.

My name is Jenna :) That wouldn't really work...

Well, I won't give my last name, but currently my first and middle names are:

Michael and Paul.

I was named after the arcangel Michael, and my maternal grandfather's name was paul. I don't particularly dislike either name, but in relation to describing me, I hate them. I has a short last name (Which also happens to be a male name), so people tend to call me be Michael and then my last name. It's frustrating!

Anyway, I've always liked the name Amy, so that's what it will eventually be. No one in particular it came from. My middle name will be changed to Wren (I think it's pretty!).

As for my last name, it probably won't change until I'm married, but since I am an author I 'do' have a pen name picked out.

Amy Wren Elmore.

I think it has a nice flow to it, don't you think? So if you ever see a book or something with that author in the future...it's probably me!

I thought of using my given name, Sidney. It can be used for male or female. As I pondered I decided to change the name to some beautiful name that really lets the world know who I am, but, but, but, but . Well as I was still in the deciding process I was registering for this forum and I had to give a name. I don't know where Shelly came from but there it is. I added gurl which may come off later just because Ohhhhhhh you just don't know how good it feels to call myself a girl. I am in a very low depressed time in my life but when I registered, just a few hours ago as Shelly and added gurl to it I have to say it felt great. Will that be what sticks with me for eternity I don't know.

Hey you guys have any ideas what my new name should be or can I keep Shelly???:toetap05:

Hugs and Kisses
